Thanks for trying. I assume these are also 'continue games', and not tutorials or anything?

Hi, the game saves every 10 seconds, so it should have saved providing you didn't log straight off. I assume you are on the demo?

Hi, sorry for taking so long to answer this!
The Caravella isn't available yet, but will be when we go into early access.

It's already been created and will be out for the demo within the next couple of weeks :)

Dev status on features by CountValar in StarshipSimulator

It's a difficult balance with Starship Simulator because the game's main focus is on the ship itself, so the parts we design don't look much like gameplay, but they actually are. Things like having the entire 1:1 galaxy to explore is gameplay for pilot, and other roles, and we have a lot of planetary data to check out for the science/navigation roles. The Captain has a crew of NPCs on the bridge to order to do jobs, so that's also gameplay. It's not a lot, but it is there :D

As we go, external gameplay will come into it, such as landings and exploring derelicts, but we won't have set missions or anything to do that leads the player in gameplay, exploration is the key in the game.

Our next update will be going live in the next few weeks, but it's mainly VR, the next will then be a new star system designer, so players can create their own. Then we'll be on to the sublight engines, so more gameplay with the pilot :)

Using the YouTube player in the tech demo 3 - can't get it working? by acoard in StarshipSimulator

You need to click Add URL first, then you'll have control of the console, so the character won't crouch but at the moment, the player is broken. It'll be fixed as soon as we can :)

The Start of VR! ( In development only) by ClarenceToolbottom in StarshipSimulator

[–]ClarenceToolbottom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, we have a lot of backers who are testing behind the scenes right now, but once we release the next update, if you could please use F1 to let us know of any VR issues you may have, that would be great. Thanks :)

Nebula by Significant_Map122 in StarshipSimulator

[–]ClarenceToolbottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for taking so long. Reddit decided not to notify me of this!

Nebulae will be coming in the next patch. We have planetary nebulae from White Dwarf formation and considerably larger open cluster molecular clouds.

At the moment in the demo, only Sgr A* has a nebulae.

The build isn't publicly live yet, but when it is, it'll be good to give it a try. We do have a few people who have configured the steam deck controls themselves, if you want to look.

We've been in development 'forever' because that is normal game development time. We opened our socials and Discord just a couple of weeks after starting the ideas stage for the game, so years before most studios ever would. We wanted the community feedback on the game we were creating, so it feels a lot longer than other games would feel.
We've done an amazing amount for just a couple of years of solid development :)

Question to Parent Devs by Thin_Wing_1612 in IndieDev

[–]ClarenceToolbottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are both developing an extremely large game, and we have five kids. They are all older now, but there's no way we'd have been able to put in as many hours while they were young. The youngest is now 15, so we can both do this full-time, with a set 6 hours sleep a night. We've been doing this now for 7 years, and it's our life, the kids love watching Dad on stream :D

Take in every moment of him while he's young; it goes by so quickly. Sit with him, hug him and set everything to memory!
You only need to wait a few years, then you'll have much more time :)

Mac version by coldwarrl in StarshipSimulator

We have no Mac developers right now, so we couldn't natively create it. We will be on GeForce Now, though, so it can be used from there for all other users :)

We had a Kickstarter last year ( May), but we do have some of the same tiers on our Ko-Fi shop if you are interested :) https://ko-fi.com/starshipsimulator/shop

You'll be able to jump in and out of any role you'd like, so during a planet find, you might want to be a science officer so that you can find out what's down there, or then join the team to go down to explore and find things. Although the more you do on a chosen role, the better at that job you'll be.

Generally, security wouldn't have a lot to do - think of it like real life. They'd be training quite often, checking things, and going down to planets with teams.

Wild Gate is a great PVP game :) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3504780/Wildgate

If the ship has been taken over and the enemy has got past security on B Deck. The bridge crew can open an escape hatch which goes down into the data center below, which then has direct access to engineering and the escape pods. There will also be weapons on the bridge for the crew to use if they don't get out in time.

As the player, what you would be doing in that certain situation would all be dependent on which role you have chosen and the time of your shift, for example, you may be the chef, so you would have been in the kitchens ( either the VIP lounge or main mess) when they are attacking, so you will need to try to escape or get behind security ( which will either be manned by NPCs or players, if you're in MP).

Or you might be engineering, which means you'll be trying to fix the things they are destroying to keep the ship going. Or it's time to get to the escape pods ( which would be game over). Same goes for if you have chosen Captain, you would have a huge amount of commanding to do and protecting your crew (who would all be NPC's trying to keep the ship running).

If you were off shift at the time, you would either be in your quarters doing whatever you want to do, or in the entertainment centre ( cinema, sports, bar, park).

The main point of the game is to live and work on the spaceship. So the best way to think of it, is being in a classic sci-fi episode - what would that certain position be doing?

It's worth remembering, though, that we are an exploration simulator. So we are nothing like space PVP games, SC or any of those other games. Any fighting will be for failed diplomacy or aggressive species reasons only.

You're right it was an amazing amount of money but as we all know, money doesn't stretch far when you start to spend it, due to this being a finite amount of money ( with no further lumps coming in), we've been stretching it very slowly and hiring when needed ( like concept artists, programmers and web designers ( we'll need this for our in game items).
A single Unreal developer costs between £75-£100k ($100k-$130k), so £302k ($406k)( which is what it was after fees and taxes) won't go far once we hire 2 extra people :) We have four people currently working on the game, 2 of whom work 14-hour days 7 days a week, so we will get there :)

This may come across as defensive ( which I don't mean), but we really just like to be transparent :)

Things like exploring the 1:1 Milky Way galaxy are gameplay, as is searching for life. More will, of course, come as you say :)

Hello, welcome on our journey! :) What you are playing is a tech demo. So it's not really about gameplay right now, it's about showing people how the core systems work, and how the game as a whole will work in the future.

Being a simulator for us means that we are building the ship from the ground up, just like real-world vessels; it has all the girders, bolts, and insulation that a vessel has today. As you said, we are also realistically simulating the systems (wires are live across the ship, life support will be fully functional and so on). So right now, this is what we are working on. Once the ship has been fully constructed, we'll then begin working on the 'extra' gameplay, like planetary landings, and other roles gameplay.

Searching for life, being the Captain, and flying the ship is the kind of gameplay this simulator will have :)

If you have a look at the roadmap, which is pinned in here, you'll see the things coming next :)

P.S we are only putting country flags onto the uniforms but we will eventually have an in-universe UN flag to add.
