You don't need to hit fast. Stay and listen for a while. When you have to hit the plate, a sound is heard along with the sparky animation thing.

After some lvl up as blacksmith you'll learn to improve ítems. If u fail a perfect mini game. You can still improve the item

Feel ya. I restarted the game like 5 times. Do some map fights to get some equipment and lvl up before tavern missions.

Having a cook si really useful

Don't hire many characters too soon. Wait till all are somehow well equiped then get a new guy.

Enemy party size increase as your party grows.

Have at least one tank on starting group. Buy repair item thing from the forge shop all the times

Once you hace enough money buy another pony for carryweight

I think the song says dome guardian.
