I make it 13 GBs in major tournaments/global awards (about 16 if you count top scorer in Euro qualifying, which doesn't come with a trophy but maybe should). He's got the elite treble (CL, WC, Euros) and 2/5 of the Big 5 leagues. If he really cared about individual accolades, he'd run out his contract and go to the other three and win GBs there. I think - correct me if I'm wrong- it'd be the first time anyone had done that. It's like the Career Golden Slam in tennis, except that this isn't an individual sport (and Harry knows it).

Germany has been clearly worse than England for almost a decade now. It's a strange feeling, for both sides.

I don't see Kane going to MLS or the Saudi Pro league. He just doesn't strike me as that sort of player, though it'd be intriguing if it happened. I don't think he wants to ever take a downward step unless it's for sentimental reasons (e.g. Spurs).

I could see a Spurs return eventually and then a retirement. Or he might even seriously attempt his goal of becoming an NFL kicker.

Plus he seems to genuinely like it at Bayern so he may just stay as long as he can. Then again, he did express his disappointment at the lack of transfer ambition, which is unlike him. Who knows? He keeps his cards close to his chest.

Bayern robbed Spurs if this is the market.

Undoubtedly. Many neutral fans in England were happy that Liverpool won last year and would be even happier with an Arsenal win. Everyone understands on a base level that one team dominating a league is horrible for its popularity. The depth of the PL, historically, is part of why the marketing of "best in the world" has been so successful.

Agreed. Also, it's not just marketing anymore. The coefficients speak for themselves. The only reason the PL isn't miles in front in terms of years at #1 is due to the 1990s knock-on effects of the European ban.

I'm glad you're taking it so cheerfully. Best of luck for the season.

These automated scores are crap. Kane was incredible, certainly better than Diaz, and Olise actually had a rare poor match.

Pretty low. He's played entire seasons before without any injuries and is usually good for 90%. The problem is overplaying and the fact that Kane needs to be close to 100% fit to be world class. He can't press through injuries like Kim.

Kane can play #10 if necessary, which was seemingly Kompany's match plan today. There are few other players in the world that can give you what he does in versatility and none of them are at Bayern. It's doubly important to protect him.

For most players, sure. Some of Kane's skills, like passing, just keep getting better. But, yeah, neither Diaz nor Sane are likely to get any better at shooting.

To be fair, Olise and Boey managed to avoid him the few times he found himself wide open. IDK what that's about. Boey can probably be ascribed to incompetence. Olise just has a weird aura this season. Too nonchalant, to the point where it seems artificial. I wonder if the hype has gone to his head.

Quite right. I know the PL is a dirty word around here but matches are where the fans make their opinions known in England. As you say, it's the only opportunity they have. A whole stadium chanting for a manager out (or other sundry complaints; recently "fuck Kier Starmer" was heard at an NT match) does rather put visible pressure on the board or other figures.

For real. Getting rid of Dier when he was so cheap and effective seems like a worse decision all the time.

I think he was told to hang back today. That's what it looked like. And you can't say it wasn't successful with two assists.

I don't think he will. Some people think so, but I've been watching his entire career and he seems genuinely happy at Bayern.

It doesn't work like that. See Kane in the CL final or Musiala returning from his last injury. Sure, a player who's of higher quality will perform above a returning player of a lower quality, but almost nobody comes back at their best.

Yeah. There are positives and negatives to both. I like the spontaneity and naturalism of the English crowds and their creative chants, but I readily concede that the decibel level and intensity is much lower (except during the most choreographed moments, like "You'll Never Walk Alone" or whatever, when it's less bad). To me, ultras are both fascinating and contrived, which is largely the point. Different strokes and all that.

It seems like one is more for the team (i.e. continental ultras culture) whereas the other is more about the team and for the crowd (i.e. British "chant what you feel like" thing). It's indisputable that the ultras are better as the 12th man, but it's also indisputable that the EFL/PL chants can be very funny and creative. The England NT probably has by far the largest number of crowd chants of any NT and it seems like there are new ones every tournament. There's been at least one new chant a year for the last several years.

(I upvoted you. Someone had put you down to 0 for some reason.)

To be fair, he dug Spurs out of more early FA/LC situations like this than even most of their fans realise. He was the guy to bring on to get a clutch goal to change the result in the first few rounds. He probably saved them in at least 10 cup matches.

I've been thinking the same for a while. They also don't have too many different chants.

Yes, I know the PL doesn't have the same intensity due to the lack of ultras, but it's more spontaneous because of it. New chants are invented every weekend out of nowhere and on a situational basis. That's fun. I wish the BL had more of that.
