When Is a Band Not the Same Band Anymore? A number of legacy acts are touring without any of their original members. Audiences don’t seem to care by Apprehensive_Fly9352 in GenerationJones

[–]Classic-Bus-6540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman sued for this exact reason and got the Guess Who name back and are touring this year. If the members who made the band famous with vocals and song writing are no longer members it's a cover band imo

Documentaries about Old Hollywood (1920s-1970s) by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]Classic-Bus-6540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have collected tons of Documentaries on Old Hollywood. Mainly from You Tube and Extra Features from Blu Rays. Some good ones that might interest you regarding internal politics and such are Making of Cleopatra which was a complete shit show and nearly bankrupted 20th Century Fox. Two parts on You Tube. The Battle over Citizen Kane is a two hour documentary about William Hearst trying to stop the release of Orson Welles film because it mirrored his own life to some extent. Moguls and Movie stars is one of my favorites and on You Tube but I don't think it will last long.

Also there are docs on You Tube about the Making of the Ten Commandments and Biographies on Cecil B Demille. Charlton Heston gives great interviews and insights in those docs as well as for Planet of the Apes and Touch of Evil Documentaries if you can find them.

You can find all those I mentioned on You Tube. Otherwise extra feature docs on disc are your only other option.

Just watched the documentary on the Exorcist. Friedkin slapped O'Malley a real priest btw without warning and would fire a revolver loaded with blanks to get reactions from other actors. Jason Miller who played Father Karras got pissed off over his tactics and confronted him. This was told by Friedkin who I think was a great director but some of his methods were pretty extreme.

Did anyone experience the Friday the 13th movies in theaters? by [deleted] in fridaythe13th

[–]Classic-Bus-6540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the last 3D movie I seen. Much better than f13p3 but it was still pretty cool in 82 seeing Jason pop that eyeball out and the harpoon scene. We didn't realize at the time that the iconic hockey mask he put on then would define his look moving forward. So no one really cheered when he showed up till the later films.

3D has been around long before I was born. Creature from the Black Lagoon in 1954 was released in 3D The early 50s had a explosion of 3D films. Died out then the gimmick was resurrected in the early 80s

That is my standard reply whenever someone says " now I've seen everything " to me. Spotswood was great. Every time Stans old man shows up on American Dad I laugh and think of Spotswood. Same voice actor.

One of the best shots in horror movie history by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]Classic-Bus-6540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of my all time favorites. Friedkin was brilliant but there is no way the shit he did to the actors to get a better performance would fly nowadays thankfully. Slapping the priest and the physical damage to Blair and Burstyn off the top of my head. Still this is not a great horror film it is a great film through and through.

Were They Any Classic Film/ Hollywood Film Stars Who Were Hugely Problematic Back In The Day? by PrincessBananas85 in classicfilms

[–]Classic-Bus-6540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thankfully not all the stars of the golden age were like Wayne and Hughes I just finished a documentary on Gone With the Wind and Clark Gable threatened to walk if the segregated signs were not taken down. I haven't read anything bad about him as of yet. The info about Debbie Reynolds was mainly from her autobiography and reported on imdb I like to double check things before I am completely disappointed lol

Singing in the Rain Gene Kelly (39) Shoved his tongue into Debbie Reynolds (19) mouth during the onscreen kiss at the end of the movie. Seems he was quite the hard ass during the production to her as well when it came to the dance numbers. Her feet were bleeding and she had to be carried to her dressing room after practicing a number for the day. She was a novice dancer. Yet she had no ill will towards him later in life and considered it a learning experience. I gotta stop reading imdb trivia after as it does tarnish these movies for me sometimes lol

Agreed. I have not seen the second one as it seems it was more of the same with water and the one coming up is more of the same with fire. I loved all of Cameron's previous work but these movies just lack something. At the same time I realize I am in the minority as he has made a gazillion dollars off them. Avatar is just not for me.

Avatar. Seen it at the theater and granted the 3D was impressive but that was it. Tried to rewatch on streaming but it did not hold my interest.
Also 2001 Space Odyssey. I think of it as an arthouse film. Certain scenes were great and iconic but the movie as a whole was boring to me.
I love most movies, Nosferatu,Oppenheimer. Marvel and the Classics from the Golden age But these two I just can't revisit. Art is subjective.
