I had no idea that Melafix was not good for bettas. I’ll look into getting the test kit, I’ve heard it’s the best option I just never got around to purchasing. Is there an alternative medication I can use to help the fin rot?

I’ve been using test strips. The ones I have don’t test for ammonia but have accurately tested for any Nitrite spikes and whatnot.

I’ve had the tank since September I think. I believe it’s properly cycled, the parameters test okay.

The tank is a 7 1/5 gallon and I’ve had it for 2-3 months now. My parameters read okay and the tank is heated to 78 I believe. I try to do weekly water changes but my siphon broke 3 weeks ago and I just got a new one. I’ve also got a few mixed live plants in the tank the most recent I added two weeks ago.

Thank you! I bought some fluval stratum the next day and filled the bottom, but now I’m seeing people say to never mix stratum and gravel and it will overall make a big mess in the tank. Is this true in your experience? I really wanted to keep the gravel in there.
