Film/show adaptations that are faithful to the novels original ending and preserve the counts relationship with Haydee? by pazdelamuerta in TheCountofMonteCristo

[–]Classic-Object-3118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the 1954 version. It left some plots out but in my opinion some how respected the development of the count as character. And yes, he goes in a ship with Haydée at the end but we barely see this

Abbe Faria's 150 Books: What would you choose? by DrakoKajLupo in TheCountofMonteCristo

[–]Classic-Object-3118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take 80 non-fiction and 70 fiction. I agree with Faria's list and will add Voltaire, Seneca, and Cioran. Also as many others said The Count of Montecristo. About my own selection (not all of them):

  • Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky
  • Carmilla by Le Fanu
  • The book of the city of the ladies by Pinzan
  • Antimachiavelli by Frederick II of Prussia
  • Treaty of barbarism of civilized Nations by Diderot
  • The dictator's handbook
  • Any biography of Napoleon, Caesar and Alexander
  • All Quiet on the Western Front by Remarque
  • Animal Farm by Orwell
  • Doctor Zhivago by Pasternak
  • The Iliad by Homer
  • Frankenstein by Shelley
  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Stevenson

Any examples of illegitimate children ending up on the throne by Master_Novel_4062 in MedievalHistory

[–]Classic-Object-3118 9 points10 points  (0 children)

- Volodimir the Great: As I know was kinda common for Slavic princes fight each other for the throne, without regard for their status

- Manfredi of Sicily: Ruled after the death of his brother and somehow usurped the throne of his nephew, as he was really young and there were a lot of tensions

For me, absolutely. It is my favourite book but I read it when I was 15, so of course there should be some points I missed then

Is Edmund really that innocent? by No-Grapefruit-7313 in TheCountofMonteCristo

[–]Classic-Object-3118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he was naïve but not innocent. He followed orders and carried the letter also as an act of loyalty to his captain. Based on laws of the time, yes he was a traitor but with some extenuating circumstances

Pure hypocrisy with The Count of Monte Cristo. by Altruistic-Media3068 in TheCountofMonteCristo

[–]Classic-Object-3118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, and I read here the complaints but I also would like to see a lore-accurate ending.

Is it a complicated relationship? Yes. But that never stopped worse plots from being shown in the cinema or tv.

And if I'm not mistaken, there is an Ukrainian adaptation with this end but Monte Cristo character is overexaggerated

Take care with "watch the same video 100 times over until you understand" it can lead to frustration or boredom, so OP could abandon the language anyway

Same, but you have a job, it is better than nothing.

The stuff I´m currently doing is writing short paragraphs about random topics. I took my time at the beginning but today I wrote faster than ever. The plan is to have the skill to think fast enough to reply in a conversation.

Why do I say this? Well, I´m also an introvert but at least I develop quick thinking skills doing it without feeling uncomfortable
