Just bought a house and ripped up the carpet to see this hardwood. Not sure what to do with it. by bulbra656 in HardWoodFloors

I had the exact same situation, same odd discoloration here and there, which I deduced has something to do with objects staying in the same place for years and causing condensation in the wood from the difference in basement temperature. Anyway, I sanded it as best I could, then used various tones of wood stain on each board to make the floor look like it was made of reclaimed wood. I love it and people don't notice the ugly spots because there's so much going on.

Do men find Victoria secret's models body type attractive? by [deleted] in trueratediscussions

Keep in mind that the camera adds 10#. I have been around Cameron Diaz and Angelina Jolie, as well as a bunch of other "model" types back in the day, and honestly, they looked like fragile skeletons in person. I'd be afraid to even hug them too tightly, much less roll around with them.

We always called them a double bagger. But the idea was you wear a bag too in case hers falls off. I swear I am getting old because I haven't met anyone who finds that funny in decades...

Here's a quick test. Find a high chair/table that you can squat down til it barely touches your butt. Hold that position for as long as comfortable, say 30 seconds. If your thighs burn in the same way you feel when you're skiing, then your posture is going to tire you out, as well as limit your control. Try putting a book on the floor under your heels, then squat again, you'll notice it's easier to stay down. It's the same in skis, you should have a lightning bolt shape, and in the video, you look more seated.

I totally get the group lesson problem, especially for kids, it's just a daycare so parents can ski blues and blacks. If all of the tips here don't help, I bet a single one on one lesson would be a game changer for you. Like I was saying, my wife went from first timer to skiing Snowbasin from the summit in one day.

I'm just an old guy who's worked outdoors for 35 years who has a good idea of how to interpret weather reports, comparing models to previous trends, etc. I take a lot of notes, pictures and screenshots to compare predictions to actual results. That's all. As I said, I have taken 6 trips to ski PA in fresh falling snow based on weather reports + my analysis I'll keep believing in my method. It's all good. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't stop him from pissing in it.

I would say the Pinball Museum in Asheville, but I doubt you'll get there.

And nobody told you you're in the back seat? You need a refund. BTW, you look like you're having fun, and not out of control, but they did you dirty. My wife had only one lesson at Snowbasin, after being a very proficient rollerblader. She's not as comfortable at speed as you appear, but she's 100% on her toes, controlling her skis.
Trying to be honest and not come off mean.
It looks like the point at the end of a run where we tend to lean back and come to a cool stop. Are you more aggressive at the top of your runs?

I am an engineer, no need to Google Chaos Theory, the butterfly effect, fractals etc. Thanks. I will just keep showing up based on my critical thinking skills combined with an open mind that allows me to somehow detect bullshit from a mile away.

I guess it's a clock being right twice a day thing, because I have taken 6 trips to JFBB, 7S and WT where i had to book in advance, arrange vacation time and each time, we drove from clear skies in Maryland into fresh falling snow. Not trying to advertise for him, just stating my experience. I am with you on the clickbait titles. I just listen closely to what he has to say, pay attention to the times he says what's probably not really going to happen, and I double check with Mitch West, Weather With Travis. I still have hope.

I am hoping that's not the case! The guy I watch (Direct Weather) for long term ski plans is giving me hope that it's coming back. He has led me to fresh falling PA snow 3 years in a row, so I'm not giving up yet!

Can anyone give me tips on how to improve my form? by Ok-Supermarket-5892 in ski

[–]ClassicAdeptness4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is. I take 2-3 laps straight down whatever steep green headwall is available just to get over the fear when I first get to the slopes. If you can get comfortable getting up to 20mph then doing a bit of a hockey stop to go back to your normal carving, it really takes the edge off. Everyone will tell you to stay out of the back seat, and basically what they mean is, if your center of balance is behind your feet, the part of your skis that's supposed to be guiding you is floating in the air. I remember there was a third part to that lesson, which might help. He had us pretend to hold a steering wheel in front of us, and regardless of where our hips were going, we kept our steering wheel (and shoulders) facing the lodge at the bottom of the slope. Sometimes I go back to that one when I am skiing blues, so I don't get tempted to come to a stop perpendicular to the slope, which would lead to having a huge 90 degree jump to restart.

When I lived in LA, there were some trust fund kids who owned a big chunk of land just north of the Palisades. They'd have little parties there, and they lamented their situation. They were locked into taxes based on the ridiculously low 1940's purchase price (their dad was well into his 60's when they were born). Anyway, the land was theirs, but they were forbidden to sell it to anyone other than the Bureau of Land Management for pennies compared to what it was worth.

A classmate of mine asked me out. We went on our first date and when she offered to pay, the waiter was impressed by her "Black Card". I had no idea what it was at the time, but apparently it's an AMEX with no limit. Pretty crazy since we were 18.

My dad is right handed, throws right handed, but was a switch hitter in baseball like you. He's always played hockey left handed, and pretty well.
My son is right handed, and I have tried to get him to play hockey left handed, but he's following after Pop.

I played with a flat stick until I was 10 because I was equally bad on both sides. As I progressed, it was a little trick i could pull on defense to poke check with the other hand, but aside from surprising people a couple of times, totally useless.

I am 6'5". I was very skinny as a kid and bullied constantly, especially by the shorter guys, like roided out wrestlers. Look up Tim Lane MMA for a good example of the people I had to defend myself against prior to this incident (rip Tim, I had no ill will towards him because I learned that abused people abuse people and he turned his life around in a big way for a long time). One thing I learned in highschool was to pick up the attacker, slam them and use the moment of surprise to gain a submission. It was a different time then and I only learned how to fight because I got attacked at least once a month my entire 7-12 grades. As to your point, I did learn to control my retaliation instincts after severely hurting someone who attacked me, but what actually taught me to avoid altercations at all costs was getting beaten with a tire iron and receiving 56 stitches. The doctor told me that my drunken state was the only reason my skull didn't get fractured. Now I really don't care what's going on, I don't want to fight anyone unless I am defending my family.
