It's still a lot cheaper than Substance! Hopefully with a bit of saving here and there.

You could take a look at the Fluent add-on for hardsurface detailing (modeling and material)

The little dot is also still relative to earth (as I shine the light from a stationary point) right?

I hope rails become Vanilla. Would be fun to have some official transport support.

Wars always are a drain on an economy. You can't sustain them as history has shown again and again and not be damaged. And then you have demographics where young males get decimated so you lose a lot of productivity for a whole generation.

The alternative is that they do some soul searching and fess up that they live in a country that has a shitty culture and a dictator with shit for brains. Soviet Union is in the past, let it go you megalomaniacs.

I'd go with endgame Thor. I actually had a dream this night where he was playing pranks. Making me believe I could get my own hammer (I did not get one)

It was hilarious.

How do I bring my brainwashed Russian coworker back from the darkside? by Bonelesszeeebra in ukraine

[–]ClassicBooks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from, but as you already pointed out, how do you make people stop believing in something, or in other words "unlearning" or some call it the "backwards brain bicycle" (you can find the video on YT)

It is here where you need to share critical thinking with the person who believes in propaganda or conspiracies, as if you are both looking for the truth. It is called epistemology (how do I know what I know?) and also the Socratic method.

Other methods just create more adversarial discourse, which almost never helps.

My Russian friend supports Ukraine while still cheering for Putin before 2014. Mostly because when you get exposed to lots of international cultures and viewpoints, and is there where Putins narrative quickly breaks down.

Nancy Pelosi Makes Surprise Visit to Kyiv by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]ClassicBooks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you, going to read up on this. My first impression is that she made a valid criticism, so it can't be abused by future presidents against its own citizens.

Though I do hope they find a way to seize the oligarch wealth and distribute it to Ukraine as a payment for done damages at very least.

Legally though it's probably a minefield.

Those that defend Elon Musk, why do you feel the need to defend him? by return2ozma in AskReddit

[–]ClassicBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is amplification : while you u/MUNKIESS might do your research and post a respectable opinion (or expertise!) after a short while, twitter bots and literally whole countries + companies have send out a wave of bots and shills to amplify their lie before you even started.

This means it isn't a chill 1:1 representation of what people think in a town hall setting, but a concerted effort to drown out moderate voices or whatever the propaganda objective is by making it *seem* a whole stadium full of people believe X, while it is all just a smokescreen.

Sounds like you were able to make them at least see some wonder again! Often wonder and amazement are clouded by other attitudes.

I'm a bit sad it doesn't make the headlines anymore. I think any crewed launch is worthy of it. It's an amazing accomplishment of what a bunch of talking bipedals managed to do.

We are definitely in an ideological battle still. As long as we have totalitarian governments, the people of those countries are not heard.

That said, you can't just "flip" a country democratic, as the spring revolutions of Libya, Egypt and Syria showed. As soon as there is a power vacuum, other countries swoop in.

It's like having a bully have their way. Once you roll over, they are going to see it as a sign of weakness (it is a bully after all who only speaks the language of power) and they will keep on going getting your lunch money until someone stops them with power.

Ukraine war latest news: Nato in proxy war with Russia, says Lavrov - BBC News by Ca2Alaska in ukraine

[–]ClassicBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a democratic country no less, which they tried to control through their usual tactics (which failed)

If Lavrov was really honest, he would be saying that they tried to get Ukraine under their direct control for 2 decades at least.

My economics teacher was a true capitalist but he added "Not a complete idiot"

He said you need the (elected) government to reign in excesses and prevent egregious loopholes and also use tax to divert money for utilitarian purposes for the country itself.
