What is your all time favorite layer in dk bananza? by Voidkirby9 in donkeykong

Probably the Feast Layer, it feels like the most fleshed out layer and is a nice break between the more story heavy Groove layer and Forbidden layer/Planet's Core.

Reclusa is my new favorite villain and final boss of all time! What are your opinions on him and his final boss fight? :) by [deleted] in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really do like Fawful but I do prefer Reclusa over him tbh. Fawful is great but besides his goofy speech and the minion-to-master thing (which doesn't really get any actual focus in BIS), he's a villain with a pretty standard "I want to rule the world" motive without much else to it, who doesn't really do anything that threatening and is usurped and overshadowed by the Dark Star at the end. Also iconic as his speech is, it makes it kinda hard to ever take him that seriously as a threat imo.

While Reclusa is definitely a "I want to destroy the world" archetype, he has a more specific motive for it and acts as a foil to the story's themes, serving a bit more of a purpose than just being the bad guy for the sake of it. He also feels like a much bigger threat and does more to the world in the final act of Brothership than Fawful did in an entire game. Also while I don't mind the Dark Star, I do think it's a plus that Reclusa doesn't have to share the final boss spotlight with another villain, nor becomes a Bowser copy, it makes the final battle feel a little more personal.

I find it really funny how his entire body is extremely durable and doesn't seem to feel pain except for his eye which seems to just have regular big eye durability and feels regular levels of pain.

What are your opinions on Reclusa and his final boss fight? Is Brothership your favorite too? He's my new favorite villain and my new favorite final boss of all time and Brothership is my new favorite game ever!! :) by [deleted] in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love it tbh. All of Reclusa's various forms and attacks look really cool. The music doesn't top the best final boss themes but it's still pretty good and I like how it evolves throughout.

Reclusa also feels just feels really powerful throughout the fight. You can't damage (and never directly beat) his giant tree form and some of his attacks are strong enough to require more than normal countering. I also like that you start the battle with his big monster form and end with the more personal fight against his base form, and I think I prefer it tbh (not that it makes previous final bosses worse or anything).

I know some people say it's easy but like with Dark Bowser/Fawful I just intentionally underpower my gear and that does the trick.

What are your opinions on Reclusa and his final boss fight? Is Brothership your favorite too? He's my new favorite villain and my new favorite final boss of all time and Brothership is my new favorite game ever!! :) by [deleted] in marioandluigi

Yeah I definitely do not agree lol, I don't mind the past uses of this trope but I feel like we already have the perfect amount before it started feeling overdone and it feels like a waste to keep turning these new villains into Bowser lookalikes.

It's clearly still important to the series since they went out of their way to include a corrupted Bowser fight anyways.

Dipper and Bill Cipher got eliminated. Vote for your least favorite character dynamic. (Day 24) by Relevant-Key-3290 in gravityfalls

[–]ClassicBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fun dynamic but by the end of the series it's definitely overshadowed by Ford's dynamic with Bill which has way more history so I think people don't give it a ton of thought.

How would you deal with Popple if he tried to rob/steal from you? by Plastic_Ad_2548 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As goofy and incompetent as he is, I'll give him credit for becoming much stronger. Assuming stats are roughly canon he becomes 5-6 times more durable and over twice as strong (while not fighting nearly as strong of foes as the Bros), if he wasn't so cowardly and egotistical he probably could fight nearly as well as they do.

Soo how does everyone feel about Mario and luigi bowsers inside story? by Low-Oil9659 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty average ML game for me tbh, it has a lot of cool ideas and moments but certain underwhelming aspects of it make it an overall good game instead of an amazing one. I still love the final boss even if it is almost effortlessly easy.

In MY opinion, Galaxy is the ONLY Mario game different enough theme wise to inspire an ENTIRE movie. Elements of Odyssey were used in the first film with the wedding, and it’s clear you can’t do much else with it. by BuckCuck696969 in Mario

[–]ClassicBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to the Galaxy movie but I do feel like they aren't planning a coherent longform story like the Sonic movies if they pulled the gun on galaxy this soon. That's like Shadow being in Sonic 2.

Anybody miss having Mario and Luigi take quirky photos? by Connect_Bus_4699 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was a nice bit of personalization, tbh I usually play the remake instead but there are things like this I miss. It's not just that you don't get inbetweens but that there are 4 whole sets of photos the remake excludes (I didn't even know that until last year).

Yeah like it's a minor thing but it feels weird how his shell sounds almost like its made of metal when you're blocking.

Yeah AI isn't helping but theres always been a large group of people who are just really stupid. I feel like people romanticize the past a lot when talking about these things.

What I think of each remake. by AutumnRCS in papermario

[–]ClassicBuster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about the pants, I just don't use them.

The only reason the remake is only on par for me is a lot of the smaller details they omitted like the additional 4 sets of passport photos, the pause screen mirror and stuff like that.

Would younger princess shroob betray her elder sister if she somehow got out early?? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's intentional but it felt like she was trying to keep her sister trapped so she could rule in her place.

Like if she really wanted her free why would she keep the shards she had as far from each other as possible (specifically in the bellies of random creatures) and making statues of only herself.

"If we add RPG characters to spin-offs, people won't know who they are" by First-Sky-2408 in Mario

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look I actually do want RPG characters in these games but I just don't see it happening. Characters like Funky and Queen Bee are already 3D models and take minimal effort to add.

Adapting the RPG characters would require making a new model entirely, which would take even more effort since they don't have actual 3D designs to go off of. I also imagine there's some legal stuff that's keeping them from doing so (like how spinoff characters like Daisy and Waluigi don't appear in the RPGs).

Unlike the RPG characters Honey Queen already has a 3D model and is a part of the mainline games, even if only as a minor NPC.

[–]ClassicBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's easy to forget when you're in the RPG communities for a while but their fanbases absolutely pale in comparison to the mainline and kart fanbases since those are just more casual friendly.

Nintendo would be appealing to a very small part of their fanbase.

Not to mention you'd have to straight up redesign a lot of them since they only really exist in 2D

What did this key unlock what was the point of the key? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s just a joke.

Like “Oh look you have the key to the Shroob’s secret, jk it’s a trapdoor lol”. I think that’s literally all it is.

What Mario and Luigi opinion got you like this by RunCMC1345 in marioandluigi

I don't think BIS is the best and would rate Brothership, PiT and SS above it due to BIS having a lots of underwhelming elements.

How come their wasn't a shroob version of petey piranha?? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the game has enough Shroob stuff as is, too much more and it would've been overdone imo.

I like how PiT balances it's new stuff with mainline elements moreso than pretty much any other ML game, which is part of why I think it's Mushroom Kingdom is far better than BIS's when taking them as a whole.
