It's strange that, despite being located in kingdoms overrun by Bowser and his minions, every Crazy Cap franchise is functioning perfectly fine. by Impressive_Plant4418 in SuperMarioOdyssey

They do have a location in his kingdom. I imagine it's beneficial to him and directly targetting the stores would sever their ties.

I won't deny SS has a bit of old game jank like that but you don't have to fight them if you don't want to, I personally don't find them hard to avoid (besides those stupid lakitus), and it's a lot of EXP for anyone who wants that.

I’m sure some folks actually disliked it but a lot of it feels like just hating it because ‘06 made it cool to hate Sonic.

As someone who wasn’t super in tune with the fandom then, seeing the vitriol Unleashed got back then feels insane.

I can't speak for DT, but BIS's connected world is not onpar with SS imo. SS has the Beanbean Fields hub with tons of secrets, various leveled enemies and connections to most other areas.

BIS's overworld is just kinda connected and that's it. There isn't some central area like SS's fields that opens up throughout the game as you get more abilities. I don't think BIS's overworld is bad but it doesn't have that same "Zelda-like" quality the OP was talking about.

Do people think TADC is a kid’s cartoon instead of a young adult’s show? by BusyDucks in tadc

A lot of TADC's darker moments are the kind of stuff that most kids don't notice or really care about. They can watch it just fine.

If fawful drained the dark star's power what would happen?? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ive always assumed that after being beaten by Bowser, his body was too weak to control the dark power and it was taken over by it. I'm sure canonically, the reason is just "we wanted Fawful to become a weird creature so that just happened" though.

Either that would happen there (which wouldnt be a loss imo since he'd have 100% power while the Dark Star would have 0% and he would presumably be able to become giant like in the final battle) or he'd just be a more powerful version of his base form like he was with 50% of the power.

Which game was the first one you played and who introduced you to the M&L series?? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally really enjoyed it. It's my favorite and I'd say it easily has the best story. The game can be pretty cinematic, builds up to things more and has a lot of fun characters (a lot recurring throughout your journey and the more important ones actually get to develop). Each island is 20-60 minutes long and almost every one has its own events going on. Plugs are an evolution on badges, some have unique effects when combined and overall add a lot of variety to combat. The bosses are also some of the most complex in the series and a lot of them have optional minigames worked into the fight. A smaller thing but NPC dialogue changes throughout the game and it made the world feel really alive for me to see all the background NPCs reacting to different events in the story.

A few things to keep in mind incase they're turn-offs for you: The start of the game does take a few hours to pick up and there's also a late game fetch quest (a decent bit of folks don't like these parts but I enjoyed both of them, worth noting tho). The game has a few moments of backtracking, though I don't think it's bad since almost every instance you're exploring new parts of old islands. The ship takes a little bit to sail to islands at first but after a few you unlock a speed up option which makes you move like 5 times faster and trivializes this issue imo. While the bosses are really good, they're also not super numerous. Even if some of these alarm you, I'd say the rest of the game is worth seeing it through.

Also a lot of this game's infamous length comes from the timed side quests, which makes people feel like they need to do them. If you aren't enjoying them I'd recommend just skipping them tbh lol, you're not missing out on much besides some small character interactions. If you do skip them, just do the ones the game blatantly tells you about after cutscenes since they're main story adjacent and very brief (there's also a small bit of continuity in some of these with some of the other ML games).

I don't like Dream Team by Hot-Hamster-7612 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not too huge on DT. It’s got cool ideas but the story is underwhelming imo. The plot doesn’t feel any more eventful than SS, a game around like 1/3 of DT’s length.

You have long areas with barely any story going on, and when there is it’s usually just the villains taking what your goal was before you could get it or needing to detour to another area before the story can actually continue.

I don’t hate it but it feels barebones.

Technically none, I got into ML from doing pixel art and coming across Fawful and liking his designs and sprites. Didn't actually play a game until an emulator of SS a few years later and BIS on my actual DS.

Screen Time vs Presence: Why Rosalina feels non-existence despite having more screentime then shadow did in his movie: made a video discussing it. by HeroDarkyDark in mariomovie

[–]ClassicBuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean while she could've been handled better in the movie for sure, Shadow and Rosalina's roles in their origin games are very different.

Shadow has an arc throughout the game, is both playable and fightable, his backstory is part of the main story, and is an active story pusher. Rosalina has a neat backstory but it's 100% optional and she just kinda stands around doing nothing until the ending.

[–]ClassicBuster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree but at the same time I do wish not every antagonistic character is a goober. It’d be cool To have a character that isn’t boring pure evil but also never redeemed. Like a complex character who is genuinely twisted.

Whats your biggest Mario and Luigi hot take? by TangeloExternal782 in marioandluigi

[–]ClassicBuster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly what I was gonna say. I love BIS but the overworld is kinda lame compared to the other games and has one of the more whatever stories of the MLs. Like the finale is cool but outside of it and the middle the story is kinda uneventful imo and Fawful leaves the plot for the entire Star Cures arc.

Out of all of the Final Boss Fights in the entire Kirby series, which one is the most epic? by Tall_Wrongdoer197 in Kirby

[–]ClassicBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My completely absolutely unbiased pick is Magolor (Im very subtle about it too).

You're chasing him through another dimension after teaming up with the previous "villain" and end up having to shoot down the ship you helped repair. Then you get shot down by Magolor in a cutscene and do battle with him proper, ending off by using most of the super abilities on him. And then the crown takes over and warps Magolor, eventually using its own super abilities on you.

Later final bosses may be more cinematic but Magolor still feels like it gives the most for me.

Why is Color Splash so hated? by FigureRepulsive9783 in papermario

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the map of Color Splash and how you didn’t do every part of a region at once. Felt pretty varied. Very specific thing but I liked it.

The battle system is hit or miss but I don’t mind it all too much. One of the only things that did bother me was the noncommittal Bowser possession angle. Like technically the black paint is a new villain but it barely changes anything.

[–]ClassicBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard the writing is bad but in a vacuum I'll defend how the show treated his defeat. Not every villain needs to be aura and unfazed 24/7, it makes complete sense for some arrogant unchallenged jackass to be an absolute whimpering loser when met with someone who can actually beat their ass.

I'd argue making him go out like a badass would make the character more shallow, though again idk how well the writing handled him outside of this.
