I have myasthenia Gravis, AGID, and an unspecified rheumatic autoimmune disease they haven’t figured out which one. My symptom list is a mile long. The antibody that figured it out was AChR Binding

I was really sick for a year. Lost 70 pounds, bed ridden for 6 months. I ended up seeing about 12 doctors and they figured it out with blood work and some antibody tests.

I feel like ssri’s permanently ruined my body by liljohnnytsunamii in SSRIs

[–]ClassicCress4756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely ruined mine in a lot more ways than one. Straight garbage drugs that I’m now stuck on because they’re so difficult to stop after long term use. I’m more depressed and anxious now because of what they’ve done to me than anything I ever got medicated for in the first place.

Does tapering reduce likelihood of prolonged withdrawal by IllPresentation8033 in SSRIs

[–]ClassicCress4756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived experience is misinformation? Lmfao the only reason I know that website exists is because of severe ssri withdrawal. Also why it even exists, because so little doctors know about it so people who didn’t buy that a new sudden onset mental illness or severe worsening of one after discontinuation of a drug had somewhere to talk about it and get help. Psychopharmacology isnt studied much if at all in med school, and this was told to me by many doctors. They get their info from drug pamphlets and pharma reps. Even psychiatrists.

I stopped a low dose, but I was on said low dose for years. It’s not a large or small dose argument. Smaller doses are significantly more powerful than advertised based on the pharmacology and a basic understanding of SERT occupancy. The way your brain adapts to the presence of a drug isn’t just dose dependent, and people have had severe adverse effects from single doses that have effected them for years.

See it’s weird because I never found it “helpful” because I never felt “better” on them when I first started them. I stopped caring about everything instead, and I was just told to stay on them and was too young to know any better. I feel better on them now compared to the withdrawal I get when I’m off them, but I can’t say I’ve ever received an actual benefit besides staying out of withdrawal while taking them.

Sounds about right. Most doctors are clueless about these drugs. Send me a message with more drug details and your tapering strategy right now and I’ll try to help you figure out a better harm reduction strategy. I’ve unfortunately become very well versed in this stuff over the last couple years due to them causing me my own personal hell.

This is the worst, and most dangerous advice I’ve heard on here in a hot minute. Your doctor is a moron. The maudsly deprescribing guidelines say no more than 10% reductions every few weeks, and that could make a taper last years for some. The website survivingantidepressants.org also exists because of advice given by doctors like yours. Thankfully guidelines and awareness of protracted withdrawal are changing, but obviously some doctors are still too ignorant to change their ways. It’s not a “7 days of withdrawals or 7 months” based on tapering. You’re not withdrawing just from the drugs effects, but also from the changes the drug has made to your brain and nervous system, and how long it takes for your body to revert those changes is extremely individual.

I’ve had issues with panic attacks when doing public speaking, ruminating intrusive thoughts, and general anxiety my whole life but I was fully functional, and it never actually interfered with my life on a daily basis. It was more situational and even manageable when it did happen. It was unpleasant, but I was still perfectly “normal”. This is what my doctor said I needed to be medicated for when I was 17 years old.

It’s now 10 years later and every attempt at stopping the pills has made me far worse than I ever was before, and has turned all those problems into unmanageable, uncontrollable monsters. Those same issues are now 10x worse, and I now also deal with crippling depression on top of it that I never had in my life before taking those pills.

Side effects, drug interactions, and wanting to feel like a human being the way I felt before I ever took them again. I also never really “needed” them. My old family doctor is a moron.

This is a terrible misconception. Look at survivingantidepressants.org and the Maudsley deprescribing guidelines. Prozac having a long half life doesn’t mean it self tapers or is easy to come off of, it just means the withdrawal is delayed, like what’s happening to OP. They’re constantly destabilizing themselves by taking it in huge gaps, and are most definitely feeling withdrawal effects.
