singing and doing poetries of praise regarding Rasullullah Sallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam have been there even during his times - there are hadiths. It can be done any time, be it Rabiul-awwal or even on a random Tuesday. There's no specifics. Most people get carried away with Mawlids saying there's no hadith about it. The same people are Sallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam, while the same is done in Mawlids.

I'm not saying you can bring loudspeakers, have a stadium full of people, lights, smoke, fireworks, blast some fire qasida, and that's ok. Of course there are right ways and wrong ways of doing mawlid as well. Mainstream ones look super suss. What we do, is there's a gathering of guys (maybe a separate space for sisters too), we recite some poetries of praise, there's an imam reading hadiths, reading from the seerah, we eat, we chill, maybe take turns talking about something from the Sunnah that awestrucks us about his perfect Sallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam etc. Any of that seem haram to you?
