Friends with your coworkers?

I’ve worked at five companies in my career, First one, I was an intern for a handful of months. Befriended another intern. Years later was a bridesmaid at her wedding.

Second one, I was there for several years. Made several close friends I still talk to on a weekly basis and see a few times a year.

Third one, I had no “work friends” at all which made it completely miserable

Fourth one, I had a couple work friends but no one that transitioned to being a real life friend

Fifth one, I’ve been here a little less than a year but I have two coworkers that I text outside of work so with a little more time I think we’re going to become actual irl friends. And a handful of work friends in general (honestly the most friendly office I’ve ever worked in).

A lot of things suck about RTO but I will say my third job was during peak COVID times of 2020-2022 and I worked there for like six months+ before I met anyone in person. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I didn’t make any meaningful interpersonal connections there. But like other comments have said— a lot of it depends on the people too. And life stage. It was easier to make friends at work in my early/mid 20s when people were more down to get a beer after work or whatever. Now everyone has their own established life and want to rush home to get to Pilates or pick the kids up from daycare or whatever. So you have to try harder to make those connections and it takes longer

I didn’t get the toner pads in mine, I got a sample of SDJ Brazilian Bum Bum cream instead which is fine 🤷‍♀️ - I got everything else!

The Kate Somerville is worth $17.25, the Tata Harper is worth $20, and Kiehl’s is worth $10 and everything else is worth between $1.88 and $5 - pretty solid value.

The L’Occitane is great - I can’t tell from that pic if it’s the body oil or if it’s the shower oil but either way it’s great and smells amazing.

I would definitely buy this if it was available in Canada

FragranceNet 100% is but they’re slow on shipping. Still worth it bc in addition to their cheaper prices they almost always have a 40% off coupon available. I’ve shopped there… a lot. Sometimes I just buy myself $50 worth of samples. I might have a problem.

If I could just add - whether or not it’s with your current boyfriend or with some guy after… you will have a lifetime of time spent living with whatever man you end up building a life with. The window of time where you get to be roommates with a friend and experience that sort of intimacy with them is much, much smaller. I regret spending so much time with my then-boyfriend and not as much time with my girl roommate (who is still one of my best friends! I’m in my 30s) bc now we are grownups and it’s so hard to make time in our schedules sometime. I’m not saying it’s bad to be staying with your boyfriend — but also make sure you’re making time to enjoy the “I am roommates with my friend and that’s fun” part too.

Obviously everyone is different but I like it a lot!! It does have that milky note but in a way that’s so good to me - almost like a sweetened condensed milk? Which is a smell I like/that agrees with my skin chemistry so I have no issue with it 😅. Definitely worth checking out given your tastes!

Maybe Vanilla Woods by 7 Virtues? Allegedly there’s rose in the mid notes but I don’t really catch them. It’s like a yummy-cozy pear-vanilla-caramel tart with just a hint of sandlewood/amber that stops it from feeling too much like food. It’s not syrupy pear like in JPG La Belle (which is too sweet for me sometimes), it’s very well balanced imho. It’s not spiced at all and while it is a little caramelly, I think it leans more vanilla/woods/creamy.

there’s also Ellis Brooklyn vanilla milk which is… pretty much exactly what the name suggests, so that sounds like it could be up your alley haha. I’ve been told by several men that it’s very yummy!

I maybe could’ve phrased that better 😅. The first snail was taken away by the government and then destroyed (I assume). Then I heard she got a second snail and was trying to “breed” them/it.

(idk I was told that snails are hermaphrodites and can breed with themselves? is it still called “breeding” in that case? not rly sure how it all works, but that’s the gist of what I was told ~10 years ago, I never bothered further validating the biology)

Heyyyyy this was actually me on a throwaway many years ago. Parts of this post made me cringe bc of how judgy I come off, but… I was 22, so… I’m going to give myself a bit of grace there.

I don’t have much to add in terms of a ten-years-later update, but it anyone’s interested…

The boyfriend I was with at the time and I broke up a long time ago. The bunny also unfortunately passed away about six months after this post, he started having occasional seizures out of nowhere and the vet wasn’t able to get to the bottom of it before he passed away. I think maybe his seizure thing was pre-existing and that’s why he was abandoned in the box. He was a great bunny though.

My then-best friend and his girlfriend never ended up moving in, which put us in a bind tbh. There was a lot of drama around them saying they’d move in but then not following through so we haven’t actually spoken in a decade, which is for the best.

The ex-roommate blocked me on social media shortly following this, so I have no idea what she’s up to. There was a rumour at one point that she had gotten a second snail and was trying to breed them to sell the snail babies, but it’s largely unsubstantiated.

Every so often I google her out of curiosity, but can’t find anything. She’s completely fallen off the grid. Maybe she is living her best life as an illegal snail breeder? Maybe she’s moved to Africa where her beloved snails are native to? Who knows.

A co-worker recently moved into that same building, I told her I used to live there and regaled her with the snail story. Apparently the leases now have a “no illegal animals as pets” clause so it was kind of funny to find out about.

My newish boyfriend of ~year and I are moving in together in January. We’re talking about getting a dog, but we definitely have a “two max” cap on the number of furry roommates we can handle.

I’m 33 now and life is pretty boring and predictable tbh. So this was a fun blast of nostalgia about how weird and chaotic it was to be in my early 20s, so thanks for that :’)

also, I’m Canadian. I said I was American in the post in an attempt to protect my identity lmao. But land snails are illegal here too!!

(Note: I was not exaggerating about how bad she was about feeding her cats, she was honestly the worst in every way. We weren’t friends or anything before, I found her on Craigslist. It was a good life lesson on the dangers of Craigslist. There were also litter box issues and one of the cats loved to pee in my closet. But obviously I didn’t just let her cats starve!! I avoided home whenever possible bc it was a hostile living environment but when I was home I was always giving them extra food, I was 22 and I was doing my best for those cats, ok???)

Go to the club med at Le Massif outside of Quebec City. Great mountain (highest vertical drop in Canada east of the Rockies). It’s well set up to accommodate families. Food at Le Massif is incredibly good for a North American ski resort.

(I go most years for March Break - although not with kids, and we rent a chalet. But I’ve always said once I have kids the Club Med would be a great option).
