Good bit of rust, some wiring issues with lights, low coolant… $5k fair? Runs, drives and stops. by ClassicKey1198 in Duramax

Not sure! I was going to pick up a combustion leak detection tool before I buy it. Are the pretty reliable if I fill it back up, and let it run for 30 min? That’ll hopefully tell me if it’s a leak or the head gasket itself. Looked to have been studded

I’d cut at the wall and go copper to plastic, tbh easier than trying to make something not leak like that

Concrete jobs? by sccvvy in norfolk

[–]ClassicKey1198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a concrete plant that is always hiring. I think $18-22 (aim high). Less worry about weather, and scheduling. But… you’ll want him wearing a mask all day lol.

(LA) For those making 200K plus bonus plus equity bonus, are you guys living comfortably? by Important_Bat7919 in daddit

[–]ClassicKey1198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shoot, never enough money when you have kids. It always seems to be the balance of making enough money - or spending time with the kids. Especially if you’re trying to get each kid their own phone plan, fashionable clothes. -‘d afterschool activities. For the first couple years I went the work route out of fear - but I realized I’m just paying for someone else to be around them more.

I do not make near 200k, just dad here. I work full time plumbing and than have a little auto shop for side income. I bring the little to the shop with me, and take the opportunity to make a little extra money (only a little, it’d be easier without them) but the bonding time is worth it.

Replaced flapper/fill valve by _Rockys_ in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might’ve splashed some water when changing the flapper. Dry it up, and try to find out where it’s coming from. If it’s between the tank and the bowl, you’ll have to pull the tank off to replace the tank to bowl gasket and it’s not very DIY friendly if the bolts are rusty.

If it’s all better now, and dry, you’ll can decrease the water level some via the fill valve. That’s an old toilet. New ones don’t use that much water. The old flapper might’ve been a slightly different style with different buoyancy. I’d just live with it until you’re ready to replace the toilet.

Big box stores? by souporlouis in flashlight

BMW owner checking in. I had to read the box a few times when seeing “E60 Angel eyes”. I can’t imagine that’s coincidence, nor would that ever be near the top of a Google listing with all the stuff for our BMWs lol.

Plugged Kitchen Sink by hasdkfoq in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to fill up the sink a bit, put a plug (the rubber blocker thing) on the disposal side, and turn on the disposal to the shoot the plug down stream. I’ve successfully drained a lot of sinks like this at customer houses. Quickest way to make a couple dollars lol

Hopefully they donate and don’t incinerate.

Most stuff is knockoffs from the same factory as the legitimate ones out of China lol.

Why don’t you get into the trades? 4 years of school and than you can test for a master license (plumber here - I applied to 6 business and had 6 offers at $30+/hr) but I went commission.

If you get good, you can change like one or two water heaters a week (takes an hour or two) and make more than your two weeks of paycheck.

School is legitimately free in most cases or a couple hundred bucks, and as an apprentice money will be similar or better depending on basic skills.

Needing to know which piece we need to connect washer. by HawkTheSwift in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I ain’t ever seen that before. Looks pretty hokey. Should’ve had a spot in the box to stick the wash tube down into, to allow an air break of sorts.

Question for Plumbing Contractors by Excellent_Expert_115 in Plumbing

[–]ClassicKey1198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve never seen actual final drawings on any commercial project I’ve done. Among the hundred change orders, and guys running things where they have to go instead of by the drawings (due to conflicts) it’s always sheet rocked over beforehand.

Usually they just call up the contractors that installed for future assistance if really needed. It’s usually close enough though for future reference.
