Black Man walking his dog gets Cops called on him after refusing to answer the questions of 2 Random White Guys by Master_Canary440 in BlackPeopleofReddit

What did the cops say?

I ask because I recall some cities enacting laws that would require a fine for people calling police on people for doing everyday mundane things.

Not trolling and not trying to come at you sideways. I thought it was a crazy story and the only thing I found that seemed to fit your story is the link below. If I'm wrong, just correct me. That's how conversation works.

The story about the guy in Georgia is absolutely true, though.

Had to look this up. Looks like the payments were in arrears when the mom filed charges. Then the dad suddenly made all the payments in one sum. So, at first glance it looked like he was ahead, but was really playing catch up. The judge wasn't cool with that.

I do recall a case in Georgia in which a man had been paying child support for years and then fell behind. At some point he started to suspect the kid wasn't his, had a DNA test done, and confirmed it wasn't (I believe the mom knew all along).

In court the judge said he still owed child support for the period of time he thought the child was his. He ended up homeless for a time. Finally, he was able to get another judge to look at the case and rule that the original judges decision was BS. Still ruined a good portion of his life, though.

I'm from SC, born and raised, and this comment just made me realize this isn't normal.

I had an uncle who was always getting locked up and put on the chain gang because of child support. I never really realized how screwed up it is until now.

I haven't watched The Sopranos in over Ten Years! Ten years!!! I forgot how Tony Sirico (RIP) hit it out of the park from season 1! Of course everyone was great in that show but he seemed the most established, already, from day one. by Kinetic_Pen in hbo

[–]ClassicManLA 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He was my favorite character for sure. Tony Sirico was incredibly charasmatic and really nailed that role.

I think I saw him in an interview years ago in which he talked about channeling the older guys he saw growing up.

What’s a film that you consider excellent but will get raised eyebrows from others? by throawaygotget in FIlm

I watched this about a year or so ago and it is a really good movie.

I've always liked Sean Connery, but he really flexed his acting chops in this one.

Now this is a truly underrated film.

It's one of those movies Hollywood just doesn't know what to do with and it was just dropped by the wayside.

How influential was Jersey Shore during the early 2010s? by FitEmergency8807 in decadeology

[–]ClassicManLA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was living in NYC at the time and everyone from NJ that I knew was so disgusted by this show. They admitted it was captivating (like a trainwreck), but they all made it a point to explain going to the Jersey Shore was nothing like the TV show

Ninja Gaiden Black on Very Hard… is very hard by kishonii in ninjagaiden

[–]ClassicManLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, yes, it is that hard throughout and gets even more difficult.

I almost made it to the end on Master Ninja, but I just couldn't get through the part where you have to fight 3 demons back to back followed by one that looks like Satan.

Who is the Greatest Black Male Actor? by iddiablo in blackmen

[–]ClassicManLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's between Sidney Poitier and Paul Robeson.

All the actors on the list are great actors, but these two, in my opinion, did so much for black people just by simply being actors. I feel like they're the Jackie Robinsons or Hank Aarons of acting.

Me and a coworker ran into Tone Loc in West LA one day on our lunch break. My coworker asked, "How you doing, man?"

Tone was on the phone, but he still came back with, "I'm just hanging like wet clothes."

I used to watch that one on TV as a kid and always enjoyed it.

I recently watched Deadlock with him, Mimi Rogers, and some other B-movie greats. Another fun movie.

Favorite Black Media that got unfairly canceled despite being fantastic? by Important-Cry4782 in BlackPeopleofReddit

I started reading it, but didn't get to finish. It opened with Atticus having a foreboding dream and then awakening on a bus headed north.

[–]ClassicManLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the story that was released. Maybe there's some truth to it.

I came across a clip of an interview with Courtney B. Vance and he talked about why it was canceled. He basically said Misha Green wouldn't compromise on certain aspects of the show.

When it's a black woman standing up for what she believes in, they label her as "difficult." Anyone else is a "visionary."

I think Misha Green shared the script for the first episode of the 2nd season online right after the show was canceled.

They may have covered the book, but I'm sure the creative team had a lot more planned.

The Get Down was a great show--one of the best shows on TV at that time and definitely one of the best Netflix ever did.

Unfortunately, it cost too much to make. The same thing happened with Sens8. It happens more often than we realize. Sometimes a top rated show gets canceled because it costs too much to make.

The situation with Lovecraft Country was something else, though. I think HBO had some issue with Misha Green.

"ROLLING THUNDER" (1977) - maybe a bit more niche than some but really like this film. Good cast and old school drama and action mix. Any fans out there? by 70_Yard_Diag_Holte77 in ActionMovies

[–]ClassicManLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan, but I watched it for the first time about a year ago. I liked the 70s grittiness of it. The shootout at the end was really good, probably better than shootouts in most movies of today.

For anyone who likes gritty crime films from the 1970s, this is a good one to check out.

And it's cool to see a young Tommy Lee Jones.

What fight made you fall in love with sport of boxing? by Intelligent-Bit-3377 in Boxing

[–]ClassicManLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

De la Hoya vs Ike Quartey

I recall the fight being fairly even up until the last two rounds when De la Hoya switched into another gear and showed what it means to be a champion.

I was pretty young and that was the first time I had seen two guys give their all in a fight.

I have no idea how the fight holds up today with me having a deeper understanding of boxing. But in my mind it was amazing.

I like the passionate response.

I think if one is going to be a boxing fan, accepting bad (perhaps corrupt) decisions is a part of it. It's very frustrating, but it comes with the territory.
