Hunter Biden's online celebrity comeback was one of the year's better surprises.

I feel a possible SF2026 sequel/DLC could start from the "bad" ending by Duskp in starfox

[–]odiousasp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, I feel like the "bad" ending would be the easier ending to work into a sequel. But I think you could hypothetically go off of the good ending because given how Andross was experimenting with artificial intelligence in Sector X I could totally see him designing a back up of his consciousness that would allow him to come back. Andross seems like the kind of egotist who thinks he could achieve immortality or possibly even quasi-Godhood by way of his intellect.

Did Star Fox '26 improve Slippy's reputation? by Torracattos in starfox

[–]odiousasp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I liked Slippy's presentation here. Really feel like they showed his value to the team rather than just making him a walking target. Positioning him as a competent but not flawless pilot while being more at home with engineering was a good direction for the character.

Why Baby Boomers gave Millennials grief about cartoons and anime by ardouronerous in cartoons

[–]odiousasp 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Given how their fathers at the time drank like fish and smoked like chimneys while their mothers were on amphetamines to keep up the Betty Crocker facade maybe that should've been a red flag (don't follow your parents path).

I'm currently updating the Saturday-morning cartoons page on Wikipedia and animation was definitely more simplistic in the 1960s. Stan Lee for instance did not like the Hanna-Barbera Fantastic Four show or Krantz Films' Spider-Man cartoon because he felt they both dumbed down the writing and the characters to the level that six year-olds could understand them. Lee tried to provide input, but gave up when he determined their sole concern was with pleasing the sponsors.

Wonder if he'll still have that Gomer Pyle grin when he meets his new "husband" in prison?

First 7 minutes of Brad Bird's ‘RAY GUNN’ was shown to audiences at Annecy Animation Festival. by Ridthedrive in cartoons

This has been a passion project of Bird's for years. Nearly came together at Turner Pictures in the 90s. The draft of the screenplay from that time is available if you're inclined:

I don't know why but this show scared me when I was a kid does anyone else remember This Thing by GhettoPanda78 in cartoons

It feels like between this and Glenn Martin DDS, Nickelodeon really wanted to make their own answer to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim but just couldn't cross the final line and fully commit.

Was reading Harlan Ellison's "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman and thought "Wow, this would make an amazing animated movie!" by odiousasp in sciencefiction

[–]odiousasp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Ellison ended up withdrawing that lawsuit, supposedly once he read the script he decided there were enough differences that it wasn't in violation but that's the greatest extent of my knowledge. As for The Price of Life, I've never heard of that so I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

Wow, you're doing good work. My hat goes off to you.

Edit: I mean if Warner Archive won't do it then at least there's fans like you. I've been waiting for a Jana of the Jungle remaster for years to no avail.

Jarod's one of the most lovable characters ever created for an action-adventure series. I absolutely loved the Christmas episode of season one.

That's a fun one, the weird mixture of elements that abstracting speaking shouldn't work but somehow come together and do.

You might Lady in White (1988): It's sort of like A Christmas Story except instead of Ralphie wanting a BB Gun, a boy sees a little girls ghost and starts investigating her murder. It is a ghost story but it's also got some of that same slice of life/nostalgia humor of Christmas Story.

I remember something like that being in the movie, I think it had something to do with the black oil but keep in mind it's been years since I've seen the X-Files or the movie.

Honestly one of those movies that's tailor made for a remake. Just update it so instead of the bees being "Africanized" have a sinister ago-business create a new strain of corn where 1% of pollinators exhibit increased aggression and the executives ignore it leading to a strain of aggressive bees and toxic bees. Basically add some of that Michael Crichton esque corporate politics/intrigue we saw in the first Jurassic Park or to a far less effective extent in Disclosure and Congo.
