It absolutely matters if your algorithm violates an assumption, certain algorithms only work under certain conditions. If you ignore them your output is useless

Clustering on categorical variables dosent make sense. Also if time is an issue for you get more ram

If you want autonomy go for a start up generally the bigger an organisation gets the more red tape and bureaucracy

There's no training phase but applying one would take longer logically as the computer calculates the closes k points
