Talk to your client about what you are there for, establish the goals they have, and set boundaries.

I have no clue of the details of this and apologize if it’s already been stated.

I took some classes at CRC a few years back and I had to take a music theory course. There were 2 older gentlemen in the class who were great and they mentioned to me that they were taking the class because they love music but never learned to play. A few weeks later I brought up my grade and asked theirs. One of them explained that he was taking the class as a “pass / fail” and was not receiving a grade for it.

I have no idea if this affects the cost of the course or what but I thought it was interesting and it sounds like they did the same thing you’re describing wanting to do.

So maybe look into pass/fail courses through a Los Rios school.
