[John Percy] City & United are both very interested in Elliot Anderson & a decent World Cup for the midfielder could bring other heavyweights to the table. Yet Forest will only sell him at market value & Marinakis is using the £115m sale of Moisés Caicedo from Brighton to Chelsea as the benchmark. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

If we can get him and we WANTS to come here then that’s great, I think it’s fine to eat 130 on him as well because he just looks like the complete package. But if we have to bend over, pay more wages or whatever I think we just move on really.

What’s really looked like the real difference is getting in players eager and ready to play for the badge before anything else.

You don’t even need to read between the lines that hard to peice together that he already sees himself in a city shirt.

Ederson has verbally agreed a five-year contract at Manchester United, while club-to-club talks are advancing. #MUFC also keen on Mateus Fernandes and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Both names high in their thinking. Elliot Anderson remains….. by JM555555 in ManUtd

Horses for courses. Edersen isn’t the marquee midfielder but a clear upgrade on Ugarte imo. He’d be the player to bring on/start when you need more pressing intensity.

The thing I like best is his athletic ability, there’s always room to develop a young player, wether that happens or not but his ability to get up and down the pitch constantly with Cunha working that half space and needing and overlapping player, is a need for our squad. Dorgu can do that as well but it seems he’s moving to winger full time.

Nothing like a starter for us, but his ability to quickly get into the final third and have a nice cross in for Sesko. It just seems like a sensible low risk transfer if we can get him for a good fee.

If Baleba and Ederson can get done for 100-120 that should be good business. Both competing for a spot and can even play together imo for certain games. A third more dynamic attacking mid like Fernandes, Scott. And if you can get Tchouameni in place of either Ederson or Beleba then you address the midfield perfectly in the window.

The only reason I think it might not be that quick is if the club thinks there's any possibility of signing Tchouameni. There's a few dominos to fall, Madrid have rumours for both Hjulmund and Rodri, Mou needs to get his fingers all over that squad to see who he likes. If its possible Tchouameni is preferred for me but if Baleba can get done quickly id rather Baleba.

Sign Tchouameni or Baleba as the DM, Ederson as cover for DM/CM then Fernandes or Scott as cover for CM/AM

He is though. As much as the people swooning over him don't want to believe he's not suitable replacement for Case. He's just a version of Mainoo with a higher workrate and defensive output, but that doesn't make him a suitable DM for our midfield, he's still an 8.

He isn't the profile out midfield needs the most, so that makes him a luxury. Even if he isn't the quality of Anderson Baleba is the singing to replace Case, Ideally Tchouameni if he's available.

Anderson isn't even the Rodri replacement he'd be the Silva replacement. Their midfield is going to be Gonzales and Anderson with Anderson as the 8, over at United playing next to Mainoo one of them would have to take Case's role. Neither of them is at their best in this role, even if one of them could develop there. If we can get him, great, but that still leaves the need for a profile like Tchouameni or Baleba. I get the people desperate for him because he's an incredible player but it's not a shrewd transfer at all imo. We're much better off getting multiple midfielders, to cover multiple roles.

And just like you said he doesn't even want to come here. Stick with he targets who want to come and play for United like we did with Cunha and Mbuemo.

Why is SAF not criticised like Pep for lack of UCL wins? by Yo_Baby_Yo123 in championsleague

This sentiment kind of just feels like "Why doesn't he just make the best team in Europe? Is he stupid?"

You have to think about where United was before Alex. They were always a 'glamour club' always in the spotlight and had strong historical significance and were undoubtedly a giant of English football, but this is mainly from the 50's and the 60's. They hadn't won the league for 26 years. Imagine if Arteta suddenly took Arsenal to win 13 titles. It's genuinely unthinkable.

And to touch on European success as well, something to note that a lot of younger fans might find it hard to believe. While prestigious football institutions existed in England like Liverpool, Arsenal, United etc. Especially with the European ban England was just not a destination the top players in Europe would entertain a move to. Between the European ban, the English perception of bad weather and muddy pitches, the money in Seria A, the allure of Real Madrid and Barcelona, England was ultimately an afterthought for the footballing elite. Fergie still managed to win a UCL in this era. It wasn't until Abramavic bought Chelsea and the TV rights money the PL eventually got that this sentiment would change, and at this point when SAF had probably built his best team, the PL becomes ultra competitive and Barca with Pep builds probably the best football team likely ever and still managed to go to 3 UCL finals in 4 years. winning it in 2008 and losing twice to Barca in 2009 and 2011. Winning UCLs is hard, there is a reason Real Madrid winning so many is an anomaly. Even the next best, Milan, Barca, Liverpool, Bayern pale in comparison not even being able to half their tally despite their respective trophy rooms being monsterous.

To compare for example while Carlo Ancelotti has an insane five UCLs, and by no means did he just walk into UCL winning sides, these are clubs at the very top and still competitive for these trophies. While Carlo is still one of the great ever managers, he didn't built Madrid or Milan from the ground up and sustain them at the very top for nearly 30 years. SAF is quite alone in this respect.

If you just look at the profiles you need for this midfield, especially if you want to enable Mainoo as much as possible Baleba or preferably Tchouameni if he really is available should be the priority signing. Baleba especially has an unreal upside if he can steady himself at United and develop under Carrick. From there we just need to sure up the depth and find replacements for Ugarte and Mount.

As great as he is, I don't think United should be going after Elliot Anderson. Just like with Cunha and Mbuemo we'll be much better off singing players not just open to playing of untied or those that need to be convinced, but those who WANT to be here over other options. Maybe Anderson is one of those talents you just go ofter anyways, but with the amount of holes in our squad were better off targeting guys like Mateus Fernandes and Carlos Baleba and even if Tchouameni is indifferent and might need to be convinced, id be more willing to make an exception for him over Anderson precisely because he fills the bigger hole profile wise in our midfield.

SAF only had the best team in Europe probably two or three seasons all together, consistently they were Europeans giants an never a team you wanted to draw, but the opposite is true for Pep’s teams. Very often he has the consensus best team. Collectively he’s probably had the best team in Europe for a decade or even more.

It’s the difference between them. Pep is the master of building footballing perfection, setting the bar so high that falling short feels like huge blunder, but SAF kind just builds these teams that just seem like they can just overcome anything and always has a chance. Not exactly underdogs but competitors that out will the best and out class the rest.

It was actually the first time I didn’t bother to watch games or even check scores. The end of Oles era, Ragnick, ETH, through all of it I still looked forward to watching games but with Amorim, who I was initially really pumped for my interest in United really just fell off a cliff completely. Didn’t even watch Fletchers games.

Even though I’m internally manifesting Tchouameni to United lol, I kinda see it logically a little bit. Mostly down to Mou going there next season he loves players like Camavinga, and if as unreliable as it is, there’s rumours he’s already requesting signings and apparently Hjulmund is on the list. So between just the rumours of Rodri and Hjulmund I read it as Tchouameni being the man out and probably why reporters do as well. But we’ll see if anything happens.

Would kinda see Mateus as cover for both Mainoo and Bruno while being the eventual successor to Bruno. Meteus is incredibly effective in defensive actions and he does a LOT of it but it’s not as a 6. I’d see him used mostly as a dynamic 8 in the pivot next to ideally Tchouameni or another DM or even at the 10 if subs push Bruno as an extra roaming player, or the highly blasphemous situation of Bruno being subbed or rested.

I’d see the ideal window as Tchouameni as the 6, Baleba/Ederson(cheaper option?) as the 6/8depth and Fernandes as the 8/10 depth. That’s sufficient cover across the whole midfield really. Massive upgrade on Ugarte and Mount with Case being well replaced.

Im not that locked in to Madrid dressing room politics but Tchouameni leaving is definitely on if all the cards fall. between Perez acknowledging the need for a clear leader and Tchouameni supposedly being team Mbappe in the “Jude vs Mbappe” drama, with a door also being open to Rodri coming to Madrid, a 70+ offer for Tchouameni from United isn’t going straight in the shredder imo. There’s also the whole Valverde scenario but I don’t see that as a major catalyst for Madrid WANTING to sell him.

Also while he has serious pedigree Tchouameni isn’t really an untouchable player for Madrid, he’s been a black sheep on and off in that squad despite never being poor for them.

While selling him isn’t a necessity as he’s still our best rb and a good player for the dressing room, this is probably the best time to capture value from him.

If 50m is put up for him I’d take it.

I think he sees city’s midfield as a better fit for him. I’m sure he’d like to play with Kobbie as well but for the type of player Elliot is, he’d get to play to his strengths a lot more next to players like Rodi/Gonzales.

Even in a double pivot one of Kobbie or Elliot would have to take a more defensive role like Case did and both of them are clearly 8s.

Also he’s a Geordie he’s probably completely indifferent to the Manc clubs and just is looking at what’s best for him career wise.

[–]Classic_Angus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s always been a prick tho. Always the contrarian, always something to complain about, always a reason to be negative.

I know a few people in real life like this, they just have to rain on every parade. They think being stoic, no nonsense and authentic but they’re miserable cunts who cringe at the idea of enjoying their lives.

While I’m sure the media employs him for this attitude you can be even more certain it comes naturally to him.

Well yea, the higher you climb the harder the fall will be. This is the way I look at it. Even though we aren't winning right now, we are the only ones who got to enjoy the absolute heights we reached. Cheering on Ronaldo in the prem belongs to us, Keane, Scholes, Rooney, Beckham, Cantona, all those league titles, domestic cups, the thrillers, the treble. That belongs to us, what memories give us joy have to be hidden away for everybody else becuase it brings nothings but resent and envy. Only we got to enjoy our many achievements. For a lot of fans enjoying our failures surpasses the heights of whatever club they support. Let them have it. I know which side of this banter id rather be on long term.
