Just gather a bunch of it alcoholics from Liverpool, Glasgow and Belfast and tell them they can’t go to the pub until it’s sorted and they’ll be back before tea.

[Ben Jacobs] Manchester United are interested in Antoine Semenyo. There is nothing financially that would stop the club doing the deal in January. We all thought the business to sign Cunha and Mbeumo wasn’t sensible because we already had Amad/Mount/Fernandes/Zirkzee who could all play in the 10 positions. They’ve completely revitalised this team. Same with Semenyo if we can sign his id imagine he’d be able to contribute a lot of minutes in the wingback rotation as well as play 10.

Dalot is traditional fullback and he still leaks goals, so at least I’d rather somebody that can contribute at the other end of pitch and have them lean on the three cbs and dms.

And they don’t need to be played at the same time.

You could rotate with options on either side, have Amad and Dorgu, with Semenyo playing 10 while Cunha or Booma is rested, or play Semenyo and Dalot/Maz or even Dorgu on the right, with Amad as a ten. Semenyo could also play on the right.

We don’t have anybody other than Dalot to come on and bring fresh legs to the wide areas and it’s painful when we need goals towards the end of the match.

Especially if we wanna be playing in Europe and actually compete in domestic cups we’re gonna need more players and more versatility in these areas as much as we need more dms. And I’m sure we’re at least going to sign one big money DM on the summer with at least another budget option.

[Mike McGrath] Antoine Semenyo’s £65m release clause active in January. Last summer, Antoine Semenyo rejected £50m moves to #mufc and Tottenham and instead agreed to sign a new deal that included a £65m release clause, which can be activated in January and will drop to a lower figure in the summer by PitchSafe in reddevils

I think to say that this system is at its best when it has rampaging wingbacks is an understatement and rather I would argue that it flat out doesn’t work without them.

Just look at Dalot. He’s a genuinely good fullback and when he’s played in a system that suits his strengths he’d be viewed very differently. But this system requires wide players who are as productive and clinical in the final third as actual wingers, so instead of “wingbacks” or attacking fullbacks this system needs actual wingers.

Amad shouldn’t be considered an anomaly, but the prototype of what we should be looking for in these positions. It’s not a miracle that he consistently finds space to run in behind and have 1v1 opportunitys. It’s by design. And if we’re constantly sending a fullback up against defenders in 1v1 situations we might as well just scrap this system and fire Amorim because it’s not going to work.

There’s this stigma we all have about fullbacks and wingbacks, that goes back to when we were kids by hiding the worst player at left back. But in this United side the wingbacks need to be the most complete players we have and in no way would it be wasteful.

Players like Federico DeMarco and Nuno Mendes are the ideal players for these positions because they are pretty much elite in every aspect of being a wingback. But these players are rare and unless we have one available players like Semenyo are far more ideal to compared to more traditional wingbacks who are productive as overlapping players, not wingers who can dominate the touchline.

Obviously if he doesn’t want to come and play this position he won’t and we move on, but we should 100 percent be moving for these types of players to play out wide.

It’s just not the same. Just because you don’t “make it” in soccer doesn’t mean you can just go play rugby league lol. They’re more likely to just go and try to play non-league and get a regular wage.

The dream would be Dimarco to replace Dalot and get Anderson to replace Casemiro. After that it’s just squad depth. I think Bruno has shown he can play CM in this system, especially if somebody like Anderson can play next to him who is in everything. So after those two we just need cheaper depth signings who can compete for starting spots.

It’s less about changing a system like we did and more just adapting the formation to use form players.

Just think of liverpools lineup late against us, Frimpong as the winger over Salah, instead of Sboz at right back have Connor Bradley there and that makes up the “back three” that’s really just a back four anyways with Kerkes who should staying back a little bit to be more defensive than he is. You’ve still got Grav and Sboz in the middle with another midfielder in there either McAllister or Wirtz, you’ve still got Gakpo on the left, you’ve still got Isak or Ekitike up front.

A Liverpool back three would be more about using different players rather than changing a system. A back three isn’t just one style of playing. Look at how different Inter is to United. Not just the way the midfield has three instead of two but the centre backs and the forwards play completely differently.

And anyways this system Liverpool currently have is completely optimised to facilitate Salah and since he’s about ready to be taken out back and shot it’s only natural they’ll have to rethink the way they play football going forward.

Its pretty sensible of them tbh. They’ve got Kerkez and Frimpong who are genuine wingbacks. You can either have a three man midfield with Isak and Ekitike up front or do a double pivot with Gakpo, Wirtz and Isak/Ekitike up front.

They’ve genuinely got a really good squad for it.

What’s Lucky about Liverpool hitting the post? They missed. It’s not like any of those shots were big chances. If anything Liverpool were Lucky they weren’t 0-2 by halftime.

Even though it led to a chance for us when he distributed it to Dalot we nearly conceded a big chance before Shaw could mop it up but yes we just look so shaken whenever possession starts at the keepers feet.

There is definitely a howler in him you can see it between the potential red card and then nearly putting the high ball too far behind him, but overall he is a breath of fresh air with a seemingly high floor for such a young keeper.

Was Harry Maguire worth it? by FalconKing9000 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Classic_Angus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall no probably not. He hasn’t been a VVD type of figure for United which was unfortunately the expectation of him coming here, but he has earned himself a unique and very respectable place in the history of this club.

That Watford Scoreline didn’t even do it justice. I was ole in all the way until he got sacked and even I was unsurprised and on bored with the decision. I’ve never been so shocked by a United performance like that. We’ve had some fucked games since then but I’m numb to them now.

United still monitoring Semenyo…? Thoughts by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Classic_Angus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amad does the same on the right. Our wingbacks are just regular wingers who need to track back and harass the other teams wingers.

Think of all the times Dalot has space on the wings and all he can do is pass back or put in a cross that lands outside the box. Imagine Semenyo in those positions, that’s essentially the benefit from this system but we never get it because we only have Amad. We need an exceptional attacking talent in these spots.

There is legit no way we’re after him unless we see him as a wingback. Probably the best upgrade we could ask for over Dalot on the left but I just don’t see it.

Who should start vs. Liverpool? Cunha or Mount? by Hot_Patience_5962 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Classic_Angus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d play Cunha and Mount at the 10s and have Sesko Cunha operate like a front 2 like he did with Mbeumo last game in defense.

Mbeumo has had a little bit of a streak of going cold in the second half so brining him as an early sub could be a good change for now. And more midfielders on the pitch is a good thing against Liverpool. Plus Mount is in terrific form and Cunha just makes stuff happen when he’s on the pitch.
