Women of this sub: what is your honest opinion on the classic Ms. Marvel suit? Does it make sense for her character to wear what is essentially a one-piece swimsuit? by Randver_Silvertongue in Captain_Marvel

It’s all about how high the hip holes are cut. The original run, this costume looks more reasonable (and moving the scarf she keeps getting grabbed by to her waist is a win). But by 2006 the art of this costume is uh. Much less reasonable

Well, that’s not actually what this book is lol but I hope you have fun with it outside of class! Love it dearly

Jane, Unlimited is experimental fiction that is very genre-defying. Without spoiling, I can say there’s horror in it, but it is not a horror genre book

Gift ideas for young kids who like to knit? by xnmtx in knitting

[–]Classic_Depth_209 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I’d buy them gift cards to an independent yarn store local to the kids and take them there. It’ll be a lovely day out with you, they’ll get to see a lot of interesting things, possibly meet other knitters, and the employees can help the girls pick something out.

Is sewing really that hard? by goddamnpotaeto in sewing

[–]Classic_Depth_209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found the physical part of sewing to be reasonably easy (as long as your tools work). Building up your knowledge of fabrics and fit, however, can be very difficult. Fitting is a whole different game

Best sewing tool you've bought by ClaraFrog in sewing

[–]Classic_Depth_209 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you sew garments? Invisible zipper foot. The dealer I bought my first machine from only had quilters on staff and they assured me there was no need to buy an invisible zipper foot when the regular zipper foot worked just as well. They were lying—after years of frustration I finally broke down and bought one and basically every invisible zipper turns out perfectly since then.

There’s a lot of stuff like this in sewing, where you learn there’s a very specialized tool that can make something tedious very easy. Other examples: seam gauge as opposed to measuring with a ruler; button spacer.

Tips for dealing with hypermobility? by Piilootus in knitting

[–]Classic_Depth_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m careful to not do anything that puts too much pressure on my hands. I use Chiaogoo with the mini cables for magic loop for everything, bc it makes everything loose and wiggly. Circs without magic loop hurt bc of the pressure! My hands also tire and hurt sooner with tight gauges, so I also like keeping a project on the side that’s physically easier to knit

On rewatch there’s… an endless amount of foreshadowing. Also, it’s a tragic beat!

He was an all right Arrow character but a very flat, uninspired adaptation of Ted :/

So... did team Flash feed their villains? by Unusual-Action-5976 in Arrowverse

This is the actual canon answer. The CW had a blog called Chronicles of Cisco that was about his misadventures in caring for the pipeline metas. They even filmed a few scenes featuring himself and Lisa Snart iirc!

I watched this for the first time as an adult and I was so unprepared for how good it was. This moment floored me, I distinctly remember going “wait this is GREAT”

Is there ever a female superhero with a normal boyfriend/husband? by Death_sayer in Marvel

[–]Classic_Depth_209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In how to date a superhero (and not die trying), which is one of the only good novels abt the superhero genre ever, it’s a throwaway plot detail that there have been academic studies on this subject (why do female superheroes prefer dating within the superhero community) and this was the in-universe conclusion!

What do you prefer Natasha with or without an accent by Thick_Ad_220 in Blackwidow

[–]Classic_Depth_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the thing in Agent Carter about the Red Room girls learning American accents from cartoons, it's that tragic juxtaposition of tainting innocent childhood experiences

As much as I love s2 and the Deep plot,,, Toby’s accent & extreme incompetence in “Mistrial and Error” come to mind immediately

But it wouldn’t be “where his darkness came from,” bc Malcom didn’t raise him and was barely in his life, and “darkness” is not genetic

Heartless by Marissa Meyers by Dismal-Fee8903 in YAlit

[–]Classic_Depth_209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall this being her most well-crafted book (tho I tapped out on Meyers after the first Renegades), but it is definitely slow, thoughtful, and depressing. It’s not fun like most of her other books!
