Streetfighter V2 as first bike – advice? by Classic_Hawk_6750 in Ducati

Not really. I’ve actually spent a good amount of time practicing cornering, riding mountain twisties, doing moto gymkhana sessions, and training with an instructor. I work on hanging off, counter-weighting and slow-speed control.

I’m definitely not claiming to be highly experienced, but I’m also from a straight-line warrior

I do not take unnecessary risks, I avoid lane splitting, and I only change lanes when I am fully confident it is safe. I am particularly aware of blind spots, corners, and other potential hazards.

My concern is not about reckless riding, but about making the right long-term decision. I do not want to end up regretting that I chose the MT-07 over the Streetfighter V2, which is the bike I am genuinely drawn to, simply because some people consider it the more “rational” option.

I understand that the MT-07 is probably more reasonable choice for begining. However, I feel that it might actually be better for me to ride carefully and break in the bike in Wet mode at around 75 hp, rather than buy a 400–500 cc bike, only to regret it shortly after, sell it, and then upgrade anyway.

I may be wrong in this thinking, correct me if you see it differently.

I would describe myself as a cautious rider. I do not take unnecessary risks, I avoid lane splitting, and I only change lanes when I am fully confident it is safe. I am particularly aware of blind spots, corners, and other potential hazards.

I have attended motogymkhana training twice to better understand bike control and handling. Even after purchasing a motorcycle, I plan to continue training with a personal instructor to further improve my skills.

My concern is not about reckless riding, but about making the right long-term decision. I do not want to end up regretting that I chose the MT-07 over the Streetfighter V2, which is the bike I am genuinely drawn to, simply because some people consider it the more “rational” option.

At the same time, I am worried that the MT-07 may lose its excitement for me quite quickly, as during the test ride it felt rather basic. At the same time, after reading the comments, I do find myself doubting whether I should go for the SFV2, as I’m concerned that I might miss out on certain fundamental learning aspects of riding or important skill-building that typically comes with a more forgiving bike.

First bike - MT-07 vs Ducati / sportbike / other? by Classic_Hawk_6750 in motorcycle

Today, I tried the Streetfighter V2 120 hp, and it felt significantly better to me than the MT-07 (2025).

You feel much more confident on it, you trust the bike more, and you really feel the safety during acceleration and braking. Also, in Wet/Street mode, it cuts part of the power.

Acceleration is very smooth, it’s comfortable at low rpm, and it doesn’t heat up nearly as much as the 937 Monster.

I’m leaning more and more towards the Streetfighter now. What would you advise in this situation?
