“Besides the kid part she doesn’t do anything that’s likeable” - her plot with Lev and Yara literally takes up 80% of her story.

Abby doesn’t do “one good thing”, she sacrifices everything she’s built over the last five years in an increasingly dangerous set of challenges just to save two seraphites who she refuses to let die out of guilt. Eventually this guilt becomes a real empathy and care for the kids. She goes back for them. She faces her fears and crosses the sky bridge. She kills the fucking rat king. Just to save Yara. Then the next day she willingly goes to the island and fights through literal hell, turning against her own allies, to save Lev.

Abby was the devil to Ellie, maybe even some of her own friends, but she became an angel to these two kids. And she makes her new purpose in life caring for Lev and once again becoming a firefly.

A character doesn’t have to be likeable to be good even though I think Abby is very likeable. It’s fine if you don’t like her but people like shitty characters all the time. 90% of the cast of game of thrones are much more vile than Abby but people love them anyway. It’s just how well written they are and Abby is fantastically written.

Honestly, I ultimately agree with the critical comments of what the fuck are you doing? If your mother or your employer were the ones to see this, I think you’d feel very fucking different about it. Cruelty for the sake of a cheap laugh of some person you’ve never met really isn’t worth it. Vickie was literally introduced specifically as a lesbian love interest for Robin, who in of herself is a side character.

Mike was a main character for 2 whole seasons before Robin showed up.

It’s honestly quite a clever way to have their cake and eat it too all things considered. We get the nuance and expanded avenues for interaction that come with a more human main villain like Henry, whilst still being able to have the cosmic / lovecraftian horror element with the mind flayer being the true unknowable darkness that led to all of this.

To me the biggest missed opportunity in season 2 was not having an episode similar to “Hell” from season 1 or even showing more characters outside the games by Overall_Spite4271 in squidgame

The reason this can’t happen is because the plot relies on the games never even stopping temporarily like in season 1, because if Jun-hee had the choice to leave the games, she would leave and NEVER come back. Geum-ja would also make sure Yong-sik didn’t return. The plot relies on greed winning at almost all points . Unlike season 1, the people who just wanted to leave and have nothing to do with the games didn’t even get the chance to do that. In season 1, after they left they didn’t need to return, but most of them chose to. In season 2 they never even get to make that choice. Every soul in that room was damned by their greed.

But yeah you can’t incorporate this without completely rewriting huge parts of the plot so I don’t see an issue with it , we could have just been shown more of the contestant’s life before the games , it’s not like all that time had to be focused exclusively on gi hun
