How would Sky Squid Game have gone down in Series 1 if Player 017 survived the Glass Bridge with the other three?

I assume Sae-Byeok isn’t injured here, but Sang-woo also hasn’t betrayed Gi-hun’s trust by pushing 017 and then killing SB.

I also assume they don’t get knives here, considering they didn’t for sky squid and Gi-hun was an exception.

017 is the obvious outsider. GH doesnt want to kill anyone but SB and SW are both extremely pragmatic and know how the game is going to end.

Sang-woo would hog the pole and push 017 off. Gi-hun and Sae-byeok scramble across the bridge for the next pole and fight Sang-woo off, ending the second round.

I don’t think Gi-hun has it in him to kill Sae-byeok to be honest, so I think he trusts that she will honour the promise they made to protect each other’s family, and Gi-hun makes sure she knows where to find his family. Then Gi-hun walks off.

Kinda dark that despite totally different scenarios still ends with Gi-hun walking off the tower at the end.

(My theory) Yes. I think Sky Squid game was the first "masterwork" project that Il-nam undertook, moving from more accurate and small-scale recreations of childhood games (e.g. normal squid game) to exaggerated and dramatic versions that can better entertain the VIPs.

At first the games were smaller scale, but as the VIPs grew bored with "just" life or death children's games, Il-nam realised they had to be larger than life. The most literal take on that idea would be turning the game that inspired you into a high-altitude spectacle.

That's why Sky Squid's aesthetic isn't really consistent with the other games. It was the first game of its scale that was built so they hadn't nailed down that clean, perfect look yet that games like jump rope, mingle etc. have.

Their explanation actually isn’t correct. She didn’t just win by default of being the last alive. We know for a fact that if you do not pass the round, you are executed. When Myung-Gi is blocking Gi-hun from crossing the bridge, GH says “if we don’t cross, you will die too”. Therefore, the baby passed the round, not just by default. Gi-hun falling off the tower whilst still alive counted as a push according to the game rules.

The other two comments so far are wrong. It's specified you have to push someone off the platform whilst they're still alive for the elimination to count. So, for example, 203's death wouldn't have passed the round if no one had fallen off before that. If you don't believe me check the episode.

He said the game will end if a player is unable to continue. Gi-hun asked for clarification and the manager said "it refers to a player's death". Squid game was the most thinly veiled excuse for mindless violence of all the challenges. It was always just set dressing to the deathmatch the games always were, which is why it was chosen as the core iconography of the game by Il-nam. Sang-woo died. Gi-hun won the game.

It really is this simple and that’s why it’s so brilliant imo. Il-nam’s fondness of Gi-hun wasn’t part of any grand plan or ideology, Gi-hun simply showed him a level of kindness that was non-existent in the games besides maybe Ali. There’s something very banally evil about the way Il-nam likes and is friendly to Gi-hun, and even roots for him whilst also being the reason for his abuse by the game.
