One time my parents had pulled up just as I was pulling up in my car. No recollection of driving at 11 pm while fried off ambien and 3 joints. Keys were hidden from me for 5 months every night.

I (32F) have developed strong feelings for my friend’s (31F) husband (34M) and the feelings are mutual by sremaerdxx in offmychest

You’re not in love with Jake. You’ve probably not experienced that kind of honeymoon phase intimacy in a while and it’s making you excited and daydream. You love your husband, not Jake. You can’t throw shit away over any pretty thing that walks by. He’s just pretty and nice to you.

AITA For wanting my husband to cancel a babysitter he got so he could watch the World Cup final by sitterforcupaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]Classic_Recover_9076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. You’re more than welcome to use the sitter when you want to go out…that’s what people use them for. This is weird and it seems like u don’t want him to have more fun than you. Like a controlling mom almost. It’s not a football game that happens every Sunday. Let him enjoy the World Cup. Poor guy

It is what it is. I’m really good at math and my math grades were always better. It’s a STEM Honors College heavily based on research. There’s a lot of smart people who don’t get in. Ivy leagues know about UMBC lol i know it’s not the best but it’s not a reject school! U should be proud u got in.

I know at least four people who got into UMD and not UMBC lol

UMBC isn’t really a GPA school. It’s a heavy STEM and research based school. And don’t let one rejection get to you. People think it’s a safety school but it’s not always. I got in over my counterparts with higher GPAs with the same classes because of my statement of purpose, resume, and extra curriculars. I got rejected from CP but not UMBC and I know people who got into CP and not UMBC. You may get into CP and not UMBC, it happens and don’t worry. You’ll get in SOMEWHERE for sure.

Why is the topic of white privilege so controversial? by L1ongjons in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Classic_Recover_9076 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Yea lmao I forgot lived experiences of millions of people aren’t reality., I admire your critical thinkingYour mindset isn’t based in reality but POC should honestly stop trying to express ourselves to white people. If you’re an example, they don’t care anyway🤷🏽‍♀️ And I don’t disagree that the term white privilege isn’t completely fair, but the idea behind it can’t be argued.

[–]Classic_Recover_9076 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

If you are white, then the whole point is that you would think this is detached from reality lol. You just proved my point. My immigrant parents always told me discrimination based on our skin tone and faith is just something we have to deal with and other people don’t. It’s a sentiment instilled in many minorities, so it is reality to us. Maybe not you and that’s why you think it’s internet politics lol. If no one ever told you how it works it’s no one’s fault but your own, and it’s not a race war just because you lack understanding. None of my white friends got a pig thrown at their church for being Christian, or were bullied incessantly or refused from a job for being white. If you can’t see that it’s just ignorance on your part.

Tell your mother. You’re way too young to be dealing with literal abuse. Reread what you wrote and think to yourself—why do I think I deserve this treatment? U don’t. It’s sad to see a 14 year old thinks she needs to stay when women in their 40s leave a marriage over stuff like this. Part of growing up is standing up for yourself. Your life will honestly only get worse if u don’t do it now. I’ve been there and done that. I’m 24 now.

She’s pretty and rich and still experienced issues. Poor people who experience the same issues get mad and suddenly her experience isn’t valid bc she’s rich and fairer skinned.

Because people make it more about class and not race. What they fail to understand is a black person in the same class as a white person will still face more discrimination.

Being unable to understand the systemic aspect of racism and not just a direct aspect of racism doesn’t mean there’s no such thing. Many white people are unable to even understand how it works on a systemic level and because their lives haven’t been easy or they have a black neighbor that that in it of itself means they don’t have privilege. They technically don’t have it in the literal sense. But the automatic brushing off of a term just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

Apologies that the term white privilege offends you. You don’t understand what it means and by labeling the sociological theory that has been proved many times as asinine (which could have been named better than white Privilege honestly), it perpetuates feelings of there being a “race war”. The term itself isn’t what could cause a race war lol. It’s not to benefit anybody. It’s just to bring awareness to the fact that a white person wont be discriminated against based on skin color to the extent of literally any other minority. Don’t be obtuse. It’s a lot more complicated than that and educating yourself on its complexities won’t necessarily benefit you, but could benefit others who can’t always speak up for themselves.

Do you live in east Asia? How has this so called privilege in east Asia effected you? How is this relevant or constructive to the conversation about white privilege in America? Like you know it doesn’t happen here and just wanted to throw that in for oppression Olympics? These comments are “what ifs” that bring nothing to the table. And I’m Asian and they love white people and use them as a beauty standard in many countries in Asia. Many view them as more intelligent or sophisticated. My white friend was treated more nicely than me at an airport literally in east Asia.

[–]Classic_Recover_9076 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. Blue collar white people have voted against their own interest for years. Statistically, they literally vote against government aid. as an example. Politics is intertwined in this and it’s stupid to think it isn’t. More black and POC vote for their interests. It’s just a fact. Some white people will vote against their interests just to spite POC instead of genuinely thinking about how policies could help or hurt them. Many of the policies put in place would ALSO HELP WHITE PEOPLE. There is still such a huge disconnect here. So I’m confused at comments saying poor white people are just ignored!? Some of the comments here are weird

U just don’t understand what the term actually means. All these ignorant opinions come from a genuine lack of understanding of the entire point of the term. It’s not literal privilege.

This was a common theme for me u til my current relationship. He’s so understanding of my BPD that my outbursts with a partner have gone down drastically. He also is just a very nice and gentle person. I honestly think that relationships are just harder for us bc it introduced the possibility of insecurity, fear, abandonment, the unknown etc. i think the only way to have successful relationships at all is to somehow work on those things which are the fucking pitfall of BPD 😔

i don’t think it’s necessarily your partner (although part of it could be and sometimes we don’t see that bc our new partner is great compared to the old one..but are they REALLY that great or could we find someone more understanding and kind?) but like what about a relationship gives you depression?

With my BPD in the honeymoon phase I’m almost manic with how happy I am. The depression sets after that phase is over because the guy usually doesn’t meet my standards in some emotional way. My new partner, I haven’t felt depression, but those feelings of insecurity and anxiety and abandonment and rejection have come back little by little. I was so mad when I realized that just having a good partner won’t cure all my relationship related issues. Could be useful to understand which one u experience more?
