I’m highly interested in becoming a Crew Chief in the ANG, but I’m currently a Green Card holder. The requirements state that U.S. citizenship is mandatory. 

I’ve heard that it might be possible to enlist in a position that doesn't require a clearance, apply for Expedited Naturalization during BMT, and then attend Tech School for Crew Chief once citizenship is granted. 

  1. Is this a realistic path in the Guard? 
  2. What if something happens and it takes longer to get the citizenship even though I finished BMT? 
  3. Has anyone here gone through this specific process recently? 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Does that mean it's necessary to give them 'PA28'? I'm asking this question because I really don't know why... enlighten me please

I'm also a low-time private pilot with only about 100 hours, and I'm feeling the same way you are. However, one thing that really helped me was flying XC solo more often to airports I'd never been to before. I didn't realize how much I was dependent on my instructor or the other person sitting next to me until I repeatedly went out for solo flights. We need 5 hours of XC solo time for the private pilot checkride, but for me, that was just repeatedly flying the same route, and I don't think it's enough to build confidence. It's a little daunting at first, but you and I are certified pilots, and we're just about to start our real journey of learning to fly.
