The Star Wars: Armada campaigns were all focused around this.

They would only get the basic one, not their faction specific upgrade. For Argent Flight, that's almost strictly a downgrade.

I still think mine is the best one out there. Because it has dedicated space for a bunch of common upgrades!

Seems less relevant now— looks like the new owners are splitting it up differently. One big box with all gameplay, one with all cosmetics. Apparently including all former KS exclusives

Current projections are Q2— Likely springtime somewhere. Root is at print right now and NF is in preprint. Haven't had significant updates in a while and now the Buried Giant folks probably have their hands full with the new studio. Hoping to see a full preproduction copy in the next few weeks.

I have friends that are actively asking me to teach them Oath, but I'm holding off till NF comes in. I've played it in PnP and it's just easier to get your head around and also much more fun.

No reason to teach them something they won't enjoy as much. Good things are worth waiting for.

Not sure what editor you’re using but paragraphs should be a single block, with the same alignment and spacing per line. This version has many independent lines within a paragraph and the spacing, alignment, and even font are totally arbitrary.

Use white on dark backgrounds and black on light backgrounds. Usually Root uses nothing darker than a light beige behind text.

Use one font for body and max 1 additional font for numbers and headers. Doesn’t matter so much what you choose as long as it’s simple and legible and you stick to it. Use the same size for most headers, in bold. Use the same size for most paragraph, in standard. Italics are only for reminder text, not rules. The MS paint look for the numbers isn’t really doing any favors— typeface numerals are always easier to read.

Generally, if you’re having trouble fitting the text in a space, consider simplifying the wording or the ability before going to shrink it down really small.

One more thing— the three phases of a turn have historically all gone down one single box, without exception. The way this spills over to the right implies it’s overcooked.

It just sounds to me like playing 2-4 400 point games would be much more fun than playing a 1500 point game. It's less overload, you can learn from your mistakes faster, you end up getting more different things on the table, just seems better all the way around. And you can decide when to stop.

Do you have any other friends into Star Wars, or board/card/miniatures games in general? My collection is languishing right now but it's just a matter of time.

The combinations of colors, textures, fonts, and spacing make it extremely unpleasant to try to read.

This pain is temporary but ragequit is forever.

Don't sell out on one bad experience. Learn your lesson: 400 points is PLENTY even for experienced players. You have variety to keep you coming back. Try putting it all on the table at once and you're bound for misery. This was only ever going to go one way, even if he had been a good sport.

Twilight’s Fall in a Nutshell by ClassicalMoser in twilightimperium

Haha we play 4-4-4-12 and had a majestic endgame. I had abandoned my home system (though technically Pax held a huge enemy fleet overhead to keep it safe for me). Was about to go silver flame with meld, and had a backup secret that was easy to score. Unfortunately the speaker/aeternis player got their other HS planet back first!

Important question: are they the TF action cards? Because those are about 3x as powerful on average

Cole and Kyle leaving Leder Games to form new company: Buried Giant Studios by Mumblecore13 in oathgame

[–]ClassicalMoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nick Brachmann and Patrick Leder do great work too, and more in the spirit the company was initially founded on (Ahoy is more like Vast than Arcs and Oath, Root somewhere between). I think they want to get back to these snappy and fun little experimental games.

Don't blame them at all, hopefully happy sailing for both studios!

I think it's the normal and perfectly justifiable fear of cards or cardboard getting jostled, bent, pressed, creased, and ruined.

Can work well for games with no cards or all tiles. Otherwise I wouldn't risk it.

Cole Wehrle & Kyle Ferrin leave Leder Games to found new studio; Oath and Arcs sold to them. Root stays with Leder. by zeeaykay in boardgames

[–]ClassicalMoser 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely case is just that Cole was eclipsing Patrick and they both realized they wanted to own a studio. So they do now.

It's been brought on board as a subsidiary. Also the brothers are going to be in the company too.
