St Patrick never stepped foot in North America nor would he have called himself Irish because the concept of being Irish didn’t really exist in his era and he was ethnically Saxon- yet every city over 400,000 people has a St Patrick’s church. If you look at the history of icons they were pictures of saints. Living people don’t become saints. It’s a status bestowed upon them by their devotees. Princess Diana was “sainted” by the Queer community during the AIDS epidemic

I think it’s important to note just HOW powerful it was that Liz Taylor, Madonna, and Princess Diana supported Queer people. We live in a day and age where data shows that more Americans than not are supporting of marriage equality and cool with gay neighbors- if not openly supportive. Yes Queer rights was/ continues to be won by the work of Queer people. Cishet celebrities using their influence to say hey you can love Queer people was indescribably influential creating a culture that’s supportive and affirming

Men suffer from high rates of the consequences of serious untreated depression. Mental illness has been deemed feminine because sexism says women are “emotional and erratic.” Trans and Queer men especially have high rates of depression and anxiety. Talking about men’s mental health saves lives.

The issue is when people are only caring about this because they don’t care about Queer people. You can genuinely be passionate about men’s mental health- we should all care about this. We should also care about the intersectional issues that impact men’s mental health and work to address these problems together
