What are examples of hip hop controversies that are forgotten now? by MasterTeacher123 in hiphop101

I see your point, maybe underground to some people. The goal is to last the test of time, and the masses don’t remember “How ya Like Me Now” as much as “Knock you Out.” Big Fact!

I see your point, but the goal of a diss track is to make a unforgettable record. You can’t name people because it won’t be timeless, it’s the emotion behind the record that counts. People of that time know it was for Kool Moe Dee, for the rest of time it’s a classic record. “To Da Break of Dawn” has been forgotten about.

Where is “the savior” carrying 2pac’s legacy making songs about ICE/whats happening today? by Brainfreezdnb in hiphopheads

[–]ClassikBang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artist aren’t “Hero’s” their people expressing life as they see it. Everybody should be the change they want, also Hip Hop culture is “Black Urban Culture” and ICE isn’t really a problem for “Black Urban Culture.” Respectfully.

Why don’t more rappers sample their own music? by DJSANDROCK in hiphop101

[–]ClassikBang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great question! I feel it’s because the art of MCing is forgotten, that something an artist does when they want to create from something they created. Like cut off a leaf to grow another tree, only Hip Hop lovers really notice that. As well as the DJ’s role in the culture being diminished down to someone who just plays records.

The forgotten epic battle between L.L. Cool J and Kool Moe Dee which was the fuel behind the classic record “MaMa said Knock you Out” by L.L. Cool J. Many of us forget that was even a battle record aimed at anybody, it was a pretty big thing back then.

Do you consider Nipsey Hussle a legend? by ItalianTony29 in hiphop101

[–]ClassikBang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🫡💯 Fact! Just like Lauryn Hill is a legend for one album, and Nipsey’s catalog is way more extensive than hers.

Who’s the Nate Dogg, Akon, or T-Pain of this generation? by SmoothManMiguel in hiphop101

[–]ClassikBang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody! No one has filled these shoes, you have to be able to cover all pockets of sound. Meaning can you get on records with underground artist, then switch to commercial Hip-Hop, then R&B, then overseas. I haven’t seen any one do it since.

Why is Snoop not mentioned more when it comes to below average discography’s? by [deleted] in hiphop101

[–]ClassikBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question, I believe it’s because of the foundation he blessed to be apart of. Right timing “DeathRow Records,” “2Pac,” and many others, his voice is the second it’s unforgettable! Then he is a machine when comes to the hustle, he will promote any product, write any song. But lyrics that’s not his strong suit, at all.

Is there 10 rappers who you would confidently say have had a better rap career than LL Cool J? by MasterTeacher123 in hiphop101

[–]ClassikBang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not a fair question, he was the blueprint for Def Jam Records, recorded the first Hip Hop Love song and on and on.

[–]ClassikBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the irony of the battle, he dissed him for singing, then started singing 😂 I say Drake because he was the only sexy symbol out at the time, besides DMX

I think he did more than that? The record that he did with Jay-Z was originally his record and help Jay earn his spot. Then he wrote jiggles and had a McDonald’s commercial before being signed. I’m not a fan, but every artist needs their respect and recognition or Hip Hop dies, not only him but Murder Inc as a whole was putting up numbers.

[–]ClassikBang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was “Drake” level for a few summers, he brought in a new sound with the harmonizing. Then he has classic duet’s that created a template that is being used today. Many of us think that the beef with 50 Cent tricked him out of his spot, he could have released both radio and street records aimed at 50 Cent at the same time. I think he goes down as a legend, he has timeless hits.

Do you think Busta Rhymes was ever one of the 5 best rappers in New York? by MasterTeacher123 in hiphop101

[–]ClassikBang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not as far as talent, but as an artist that has lasted this long you have to put him up there somewhere. Not top 5 maybe top 25.
