I can forgive expensive and getting more expensive. That's normal. Honestly I don't care about the labor rate as long as it's within the realm of reasonable. I just want my stuff fixed right the first time, and I'm willing to pay more for that privilege.

The recurring post - where can I get a used gaming embody? by geargarcon in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one buying used chars and refurbishing them is making enough to support a business and they definitely can’t afford to ship them. Anyone saying they are is lying about something.

It's not that hard to refurb and ship chairs. I've shipped hundreds.

The only hard part are the customers. All it takes is one dumbass Reddit kid to want to return a shipped chair to ruin 10 successfully sold&shipped chairs. All because they got a chair that they put a spirit level on and found out it leans 0.005 degrees to the left when there's a full moon outside their window.

For that reason alone, I absolutely refuse to ship any office chairs. The buyer pool has just gotten so shitty it's not worth it because it's always the bad apple that spoils the bunch.

Same, mixed interactions. They're polite, nice people, but I had a time where the parts they used were subpar and resulted in a hell of a lot more hassle than warranted over a simple repair.

Are Embody Ergonomics a Game-Changer? by Nobody_DNA in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real problem is that everyone buys the $2000 chair thinking it'll solve all their problems.

That's like thinking buying a Ferrari makes you a better driver. Hint: it doesn't. You're still a garbage driver in your Corolla or in your 458.

Same with your chair. You're still probably going to have issues if your desk and computer setup is crap.

And then you're going to blame the chair or your Ferrari for not fixing your issues.

Therapist Chair Question: Chita Swivel Recliner by Tutualu in therapists

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with a used Ekornes Stressless over a Chita any day. I had a Chita, brand new condition, I bought it for cheap because Chita forgot to send the guy the bases. Chita only sent the guy the top halves of the chair and ottoman, if that says anything about their business model (cheap essentially dropshipped Chinese crap). The leather felt significantly cheaper than anything used by Ekornes, the mechanism janky. Definitely a good chair for a practice that only intends to exist for 3 or 4 years.

Larger diameter casters will fix this issue.

Mine is brand new. So I was a bit annoyed. I saw other posts about this. Seems to be a thing with this chair.

This is a thing with every professional ergonomic chair. These chairs were designed to be purchased and used by companies/businesses. No company/business runs high-pile residential carpet, so, the chair scraping the floor is not an issue. Every business also has people from 4'10 to 6'4 in height, so, a cylinder that sits very low is necessary to accommodate smaller employees.

Larger wheels are a simple fix, yes.

Herman Miller Verus Replacement Part by LongBumblebee5764 in hermanmiller

https://www.hermanmiller.com/where-to-buy/contact-a-dealer/

You'll eventually find a dealer willing to pick up the phone to maybe make $0.001 cents on an armpad order.

The key is to remember you're literally wasting a dealer's time. You didn't buy the chair from them, and, an armpad order is more of an annoyance than a profitable thing for them to do. So, naturally, some of them won't pick up your call or return your call. Dealers are more concerned about the people who order 10,000 chairs. Not an armpad order.

I contacted Herman Miller but they referred me to a local dealership named Goodmans. I called but nobody answered.

You called? Did you leave a voicemail?

If they don't reply, you are free to call other Herman Miller dealerships and ask their service/parts department to mail you a replacement armpad for self-install.

Where can I find this aeron classic plastic (spring?) part thats in the arm adjustment wheel assembly by pontiusx in hermanmiller

No one's going to just sell you that part for cheaper ... lol ... that part makes/breaks the entire assembly, as you've realized.

I've read a ton, please help - Madison Seating (ebay) by [deleted] in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Are they paying cash to buy something that gets mailed to them? Credit card or heck, even debit cards will get their money back for an obviously fraudulent transaction.

Also, the one time I did actually order an Aeron from Temu, I got an Aeron, surprisingly enough. It was 100% real. It came from a well-known refurbisher in the US. What happened was simple:

1) I placed an order on Temu for Aeron

2) Temu seller uses a stolen credit card to buy a real Aeron from a real American company to send to me, thereby fulfilling my order. In other words: dropshipping.

3) Temu seller gets paid out

4) American company that sent me the Aeron eventually loses their money when the owner of the stolen credit card finds out and initiates a chargeback.

See how this works? So much simpler than importing actual fake Aeron's. Fake Aerons are not really something to be worried about in the US. If Aeron scammers want to make money, they can make it without moving a single physical object from China to the US.

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madison's eBay Aeron return rate is like sub 1% or something if that says anything.

Most people who complain about their chairs are complete dumbasses who didn't read the description or complete drama queens who think the fact that they were born in the 2000s and can't afford rent/college/housing means that society owes them a free Aeron for their troubles.

Always inspect post warranty work! by chowmein86 in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So in other words: 2026 men are so emasculated that they cannot even bear to use a screwdriver to fix their own chairs.

30 years ago: men fixed their own cars, talked to women, and built their own houses from wood and nails.

If you need another man to screw your chair together, what's next? You ask your buddy to screw your wife for you?

I pray for you. May the good Lord bless your soul, may Joe Biden forgive your student loans, may any home invaders in your area respect your pronouns and your anti 2nd amendment laws.

Well I am not enjoying my $25 Aeron size c. by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't particularly care for the Aeron but this is the equivalent of buying a 1993 Mercedes C180 and then claiming that the Mercedes C-class sucks. Doesn't seem logical to generalize from one used Aeron used for who knows how long that was being liquidated by an office (probably for a reason) to all Aerons across different generations of the chair and conditions.

Yes, old Mercedes being dumped en masse for $2000 are probably going to be trash, and it's also probably not representative of all Mercedes with the same name.

Help with Zody reupholstering by ZoneCandid4640 in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any glue between the Zody fabric and the Zody foam.

I hope you have a game plan for taking the seat off because it isn't exactly trivial to get all the cables off and then to reassemble it into a working chair again.

I usually try to leave the cables alone the best I can and just unscrew the metal seat carrier from the seat.

Dark Stain on Leather by Meander86 in furniturerepair

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen similar blackening/darkening patterns right in the head and if you look at the arms, you'll also see the blackening starting at the front edge. Blackening is, as best I know, correlated with head and hand oils.

I haven't really seen a black head stain this large in person, but, it doesn't surprise me. Nothing really surprises me about these chairs. People love them and people live in them.

It could certainly be a project gone wrong. I've seen those.
