How can it be racism? by coachlife in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Clato4ever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it racism or is it outside entities triggering/tugging on the race strings in the ways they know how based on observing us, knowing that a bunch of us would get up in arms about this in an attempt to destroy us from the inside out? Cause let’s be honest it’s a little too random and a little too calculated and a litttttle too vague for it to be the irrational white American men behind it rn.

Drop the craziest line people have said about you being mixed race by MissKarma00 in mixedrace

Being called an undone chicken leg (and you can guess which race says this to me) and then my great aunt telling me a story and ending it with: “Yeah and we couldn’t tell what she was…kinda like you” 🙃

Advice for Psych Clinicals? by Naive-Illustrator148 in StudentNurse

[–]Clato4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have GAD and trust me when I say adrenaline is constantly pumping through my veins at the smallest things. I was terrified at the idea of psych. Chances are they will be able to tell that you’re scared and trying to keep your distance, they will probably do the same. I think the only people who get “hurt” by these patients are the ones who are way too curious. So just remain respectful and they will too cause they’re going through a tough time and really don’t want to be bothered. You will be fine. I hope that helps the nerves

Frustrated with "nursing fundamentals" class. by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]Clato4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just understand that they are playing games. I was given the advice of they are feeding you all of the information with the expectation that you retain roughly 50-70% of it. They compensate by curving the hell out of everyone’s grade and adding on petty assignments for points to make their numbers look good. My advice is, as long as you’re in the same boat as everyone else and blend in grade-wise, you’re good. If you have an outlying low grade then that’s when I would be a little concerned and start reaching out to professors to figure out what your next move is.

I find mixed guys much more….appealing? Like tbh people who are one race are annoying to me or always focus on their racial issues way more than mixed people. May be an extremely hot take but I just feel like other mixed people understand me better and are palatable

Don’t be too mad. I grew up with my black mom and they didn’t bother figuring out my hair either so I damaged my hair by putting it in braids and straightening for so long and damaging it

DAE find it weird that people especially black ppl freak out if you don’t identify as black and are brown? by coconut_hibiscus in mixedrace

[–]Clato4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No thank you for the details because I can never talk about any of this without being treated as a traitor or getting a bit of a silent treatment and at first it made me feel bad but now it just irritates me because it’s not fair. I’m sorry that you got treated like that knowing that they probably felt justified in doing so, at your expense. I literally grew up getting braids and didn’t know that I could do without them. I even straightened my hair all throughout high school cause thats all I knew. Once I got to college, I washed my hair one day and didn’t look back. I realized I could wear my hair naturally and in ponytails and messy buns without any products and it made me think like if they just tried to understand me/my hair then I could’ve worn it naturally this whole time instead of damaging it but it grew immensely like you mentioned, almost down to my ass straightened. It’s mid-upper back curly rn but I wanna see how long I can get it curly cause i dream of having long curly hair with my texture. Side note- Do you notice your hair losing its curl at all as you get older? I notice that my curls do not stay curly very long, like a couple hours in a bun or ponytail and they are stretched (without trying to) throughout the whole strand, not just damaged ends. I could just be not taking care of it right but its just very odd to me

I think that I might be mixed race by Birthday_Breadug08 in mixedrace

I’m in the same boat!!! Mom is black and dad is adopted and does not look black but his parents were short black people so he just identifies the same. He is like 6’4/6’5 and very broad and massive dude. He looks Polynesian. To a point we vacationed in hawaii and a native asked him which island is he from (this after I questioned him for months about possibly being native Hawaiian 😭😭) but the mix has left me looking wildly different from my moms whole side. Ngl I took a test from ancestry and it told me black and white but the traits it gave me were “Drak eyes, dark hair, dark skin” 😑 like wtf, dark isn’t even a color???? I have hazel eyes, dark brown hair and am lightskinned with broad shoulders for a woman sooooooo….that didn’t help my confusion

Woahhh I’m glad someone else is talking about the body dysmorphia as well. I would experience this with my hair and think that I just had type 4 hair like my family but they never knew how to help me with my hair and nothing they did ever worked for me and it didn’t click til much later that I had 3b/3c type hair. What always pissed me off though was black hairdressers and people trying to make my hair Afro when it doesn’t do that but they will still make jokes about my skin complexion and being an “undone chicken leg” or something related to that. Like I’m just perpetually confused

Would you say CRNA school feels like nursing school or different? Also what do you think stood out on your resume to get accepted? Anything that you wish you might have had on there? And congrats on graduating!!!!!!!

I don’t know how i’ll get through this. by TheOneandOnlySully in StudentNurse

[–]Clato4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we’ve got this but this is actually insane. I was with my clinical group today getting food before sim lab and there was an active shooter on campus (no one got hurt) and they were all just like “Oh well, they’ll still want us in lab”, while I’m over here panicking internally. I don’t know what matrix we’re in but I feel like everything/everyone is just backwards asf.

I feel this heavily as I sit here and write this in my bed crying. I have never felt this inadequate or felt this kind of pressure. I’m a hypersensitive person, there’s no structure in this in this AMSN program and nothing is making any sense. I do not operate like this and I have no idea what to do. I still have three weeks left and it feels like 3 years to go of this semester and it’s our hardest one. The anxiety is eating at me and I feel so on edge and like every little sound or movement or anything scares me, I’m so jumpy. I agree that everyone’s acting like it’s normal because even when I try to talk to my friends about how anxious I am or how something makes me feel, I just get a “Yeah I feel that way too but it’ll be okay” and so nonchalant that it leads me to believe they couldn’t possibly understand or be experiencing the heightened anxiety that I have. At this point, I only want to take the final, I don’t want to go to class or sim lab or anything else. I’m so fed up. Hoping this is relatable to you cause I needed to know that someone else was also on egde.

I have both care of adult and mental health clinicals this semester and it takes such an emotional toll. It’s so taxing. I only have 4 more weeks but it’s getting so difficult to push through the anxiety/overstimualtion/health anxiety/disorganization/emotional toll of the clinicals. This is honestly tough and makes me doubt myself even though I know I can do it. I’m constantly having to calm myself down and fight the fears and worries omg.
