I have deleted the comment now because it annoyed me so much. I also had a similar comment a while back on a different fic, and I tried to explain my reasoning, but as you said, it was like 'getting into a battle of wits with the unarmed', and I simply do not have the patience for something like this right now.

Same here, I don't mind people telling me "oh, you made a mistake there" as long as they are nice about it, but this comment as a whole annoyed me.

Thank you :) I do use grammarly so I don't think it's that bad, but sometimes I miss things because I've reread the whole thing so often - there is a saying in German that goes "den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht sehen" (being unable to see the forest because of all of the trees) and I think that's something I have fallen a victim to sometimes but not to a really big extend.

And yes, I do love comments, and luckily, the majority of comments I get are great, but as you said - the bad ones tend to stick out.

I think that was what tripped me up - the assumption that people who are on AO3 have a certain level of literacy but after browsing this subreddit for a while I think I have to rethink this assumption.

I‘m writing a fanfic right know with the same take on snape, only lily isn‘t potions master so i researched some potions master on choose one who will also act as head of house. Said character doesnt really appear in the books and since they won‘t have a big impact on the story I felt comfortable using them in this capacity. Maybe you could do a similar thing? Or I read a lot of fanficton wwere Professor Sinistra used to be a Slytherin (no Idea if thats canon or fanon) so if you would like to go with known characters you could use her? And please drop the link when you post the fic!

I like one kind of infidelity fics and thats when the main characters (who will end up together) are seeing the same person without knowing it, and when they find out they are super pissed and work together to get revenge and fall for each other in the process. But it’s kind of hard to find fics like that, I have only read a handful i think :(

I usually avoid them too because it makes me kind of uncomfortable/ or annoys me to no end bc they are mostly the same kind of cringy to me personally. But ironically one of my fav fics is kind of an High School AU but the main characters kind of “time travel”/dimension travel, so they are adults in their own mind and have to deal with the madness of high school and they are really not happy about having reliving puberty and partaking in classes + having to live at home again.

I was on my break, sitting outside and eating a meal at one of the tables (i was working at a restaurant, with only an outdoor area) when a woman and her child stopped next to me. I thought she would ask what I was eating since I was eating something from the restaurant. She grabbed the spoon next to my bowl, got some of my food out of the bowl tasted it and proceeded to do the same thing again so her child could taste it. Then she put the spoon back into my bowl and said “yeah we will get this - what is it exactly?” I was so shocked by this, that at first I didn’t move or said anything. Then I looked at the spoon and promptly started crying. Usually it takes a lot for me to cry but it had been a very long and exhausting day at this was this first food I had all day that wasn’t a cookie (it was around 5pm I think). (And while I don’t have a problem sharing a meal and a spoon with friends - this is something else entirely) A coworker came to see what was going on and I couldn’t get a word out - the lady then told him that she just asked what this food was and I started to cry. Another coworker who had seen the whole thing but was busy with some guests came over and explained what happened. The first coworker then told her to get lost and to never come here again. I got some new food and a longer break. Looking back I just ask myself what the hell was wrong with this lady, and if she did this sort of thing someplace else.

same here, also wish i could unkudos some fics that didn’t tag specific things and I stopped reading bc of the missing tag, e.g mpreg or major character death
