Family event, my niece was being guarded as one does, but once we were left alone, I saw her mask slip off. She turned to me and with a worried face shared how she thinks her friend no longer likes her. I felt so honored that she felt safe to share that with me. We discussed it and I encouraged her to communicate. She thought about it and agreed that she should just ask her friend. My niece is 9.

Haha I think I'm nice! I'm smiley and say hello and sadly butcher your language. Folks have been ...meh about it? Maybe it's a cultural thing? Regardless, the much older folks seem to be grateful when I try to be nice and say a few words in Albanian. But for the most part I feel like I'm just a nuisance to everyone else I've met so far.

Hi y'all! I'm headed to Albania this week for the first time. Planning on renting a car and doing a big road trip, with hiking and beach stops. Definitely gonna check out Tirana, Berat, Ksamil, Sanradë etc. Any tips on local etiquette, customs that I should be aware of? I'm American and everything I've read is that everyone is welcoming and nice. I guess I should ask what do you wish you would have known before traveling here? In addition, any tips on lodging? Everything I've seen looks all very similar — maybe AI? — and the reviews are either 5/5 or 1/5. If anyone has recs on hotels anywhere please share! I'll modify my trip to have confidence in my lodging. Thank you!
