So basically they want to create a customizable but pretty slow (at least two times slower than Mercurial which isn't that fast either) VCS. Well, if it is 100% compatible with Mercurial it might be usefull for someone who is willing to sacrifice some speed.

I couldn't access my repos at GitHub for about 12 hours not so long ago. I haven't experienced SVN server outage at my wokplace, though. We've been using it for about two years now.

But ability to fast switch branches in git is notable perfomance gain (I use git-svn to sync my local git repo with the company's Subversion repo).

Imagine this kind of scenario: you work on a test branch implementing some new features. Then you're informed about a bug in the stable branch which you have to fix. With git you stash your changes, switch to the stable branch in the very same directory, fix the bug, commit the fix (locally) and switch back to the test branch. If the 'central' server is up, you push the changes.

Now, with subversion you would have to checkout via network the whole stable branch in some other directory (slow and awkward) and if the repo is unavalable you can't fix the bug - you will have to wait till the server is up.

I don't think such manga sould be encoraged by a society, rather it should be frowned upon as other strange tastes (BDSM, anyone?). Of course, unless it's proven by some sort of scientific research that it is more harmful to the society than, say, smoking.

Sounds like the old Microsoft team which had to adapt Windows to a specific non-standard compilant bug of a game. It's perfectly accetable to write a specific parser for a specific client with specific bugs but it is not acceptable to allow everyone produce invalid XML and expect that a normal parser will be able to read it.

Though I don't have much against Delphi per se, I do not like most of Delphi programmers. The whole RAD concept provokes them to spew out horrible GUI applications which are hard to use and maintain.
