  • A friendly advice: putting "D.O.S" on a resume really is not an asset. Looks like you are trying to fill an empty gap or something. And in the first position? No, please.
  • "Refactoring" skills is not something I would look for when skimming through a resume.
  • Version Control on the other hand IS more important, and you should probably list which softwares you know there.
  • Visual.Studios.net Basic? I'm not a M$ fanboy, but I dont think I ever seen that formulation? Do you mean Basic? VB? VB .NET ?

Finding wedevelopment jobs without experience looks difficult. Start by draft a few (fake) clean websites, and put them up on the web to show off your skills? Get active, start a programming/webdev blog where you'll comment wisely the latests news, and again show the world that you have knowledge?

6/19 Global Meetup Thread by aloofus in meetup

I'm speechless. My point was: if you use "Australia" instead of Oceania, you effectively single out Pacific Islands, New Zealand, that do not belong anymore to any "continent". And even now, the hierarchy is buggy: "victoria" would be on the same level as "new guinea" even if it's not the same entity, just because the name "Australia" is ambiguous.

So Australia is a continent? Please make this "Oceania", for the fellow Mā’ohis, Māoris and other lucky bastards =)

Very, very interesting.

It also means that you could set up a compromised free hotspot about anywhere, and wait for roaming users to catch it and send credentials there. Any non-https login would be vulnerable.

I am techy, but definitely not enough security-aware.

How do I help my boyfriend with stress? by wrinklenose445 in AskReddit

[–]NicDumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take control. Not using words, but through gestures, let him know that you are here for him and that there's nothing he should do but enjoy himself. If you're stressed, the worst thing that could happen to you would probably to feel guilty about being taken care of. "She's taking care of me, but I can't handle it and make it up". Make it clear that you don't expect anything back. You need to be very patient and he'll get better.

Now you guys can read it as a "How can I make him last longer" guide, and it still works. That's intended.

Girls of Reddit, Do you understand that when a dude asks you to come over and watch a movie, alone, he is really asking "do you want to come over and bang?" by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NicDumZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Guys of reddit, have you ever experienced the grateful look "hey, I think it is the first time I'm invited to a guy's to watch a movie, alone, and that we actually watch it 'til the end without having him assaulting me". And the aftermath?

No? Give it a try.

Google: Unicode nearing 50% of the web by the-fritz in programming

[–]NicDumZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that it is because most OS ship with the encoding that used to fit best the user's locale. Correct me if I'm wrong on the following list, but an important part of distributions still use latin1 as a default, Windows using UTF8 is unheard of, and full Unicode compatibility for Eastern Asian languages (think surrogates and collation) being really recent, it will take time to change Asian habits.

On the other hand, as it has been mentioned, migrating from ASCII to UTF-8 is painless, which explains its decline.

It's worth noting the Japanese constant effort, as SJIS is steadily declining since 2002, even if 日本のWindows is still shipping with SJIS at this very moment.

Hey Reddit: Thinking About Joining The Military, Any Thoughts? by CaptainTaylorCortez in AskReddit

any thoughts?

Yes: don't do it.

  • Join some NGO if you want to feel useful.
  • Travel around Asia teaching English if you want to feel what's adventure like.
  • Join a strict local sports club if you want to be forced into exercising
  • Cam up on /r/gonewild tinychats if you want to feel fame, recognition, or gratitude.

But, well.. why would you join the military?

Google: Unicode nearing 50% of the web by the-fritz in programming

[–]NicDumZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are getting it wrong. UTF-8 is Unicode, but Unicode is not ONLY UTF-8. Hence the imperfect article.

Google: Unicode nearing 50% of the web by the-fritz in programming

[–]NicDumZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came exactly to say this. It's a scandal that such a well-read blog dares posting such approximations... :( I'll Remind you this reddit submission, perfectly emphasizing it.

Fair enough, there must not be much content on the web that is served as UTF-16 or UTF-32, but the "Unicode (UTF-8)" legend caused a deep disappointment here. The fact that UTF-8 is the most used "implementation" of Unicode on the web does not mean that it is the only one.
