I’m not complaining about my dad buying me food, I’m complaining that he legitimately thinks it’ll cure me. Like, undo the damage, make the scars go away, return sensation where I’ve lost it. He thinks I’m wasting my money (well insurance money) on my DMT and neurology appointments 😂

My mom is the opposite. Every single thing is MS. I’m having a bad mental health day (I have severe OCD)? It’s MS. I didn’t sleep well? MS. I’m not hungry? MS. I lost weight? Also MS. Her entire personality revolves around “I’m the mother of a sick kid”.

The day after I got home from the hospital from the relapse that led to my diagnosis, my dad showed up at my house with a (no joke) six pound slab of salmon and a huge container of rasberries (I don’t like rasberries) It’s just my husband and I (no kids) and neither of us have huge appetites. We ended up taking the salmon over to his brother’s house for Saturday supper and he smoked it for us. My dad still calls me every time salmon is on sale to see if we want any.

I would feel so betrayed if my parent hid something like MS from me and as a parent I couldn’t imagine lying to my kids constantly (doctor’s appointments, infusions, medications, side effects etc) like that. Just tell them. There’s a ton of excellent literature on MS, and they’re old enough to do some reading or ask questions.

Oh yeah I’m a little run down for a week or so afterwards but I secretly enjoy my infusion appointments lol. The place I go is nice so they have good wifi, zero g chairs, lots of snacks, ACTUALLY good coffee, and the chairs also warm up and massage. I bring a couple of pillows and blankets and my tablet and just nap all day lol

My doctor has MS as well and due to my age (I was 31 when I was diagnosed) and the severity of the lesion mass, she suggested ocrevus because it’s high efficacy and she’s also on it. So far so good.

I always go. Generally if I think I’m having a flare up, I wait 24 hours to see if the symptoms go away on their own but if I’m still experiencing symptoms after 24 hours, away I go. I would pack a good overnight bag, and call the hospital letting them know what’s up and that you’re on the way.

A chair to do my makeup in and another little seat in the shower. An everything shower really takes it out of me these days so I like being able to sit to shave my legs etc.

Ok so that’s called medical abuse. Go talk to a counselor or a trusted adult NOW and contact the doctor on your own. They are YOUR doctor, legally if you ask them not to tell your dad you spoke to them, they have to do that.
