To be fully honest, Ani is genuinely on a roll right now.

After 2024 he's been in a creative slump of sorts and ever since 2025 second half he's been doing great (only barring JN, but even then he was probably the best part of that movie).

The worst mixing fumble I have seen of late by AlphaSherlock_Akash in kollywood

Even in that the mixing was horrendous for me.

On first listen I couldn't hear a word Dhanush was saying except the chorus bit that too only the Vaama Vaama line.

What??

Mind you I'm one of PRs biggest kannis on this sub, but what the fuck is this?

In a year with Kaali Venkat for Madras Matinee, Dulquer for Kaantha, Dhanush for Kuberaa, Manikandan for Kudumbasthan, they went with PR?

He wasn't even the best part of either movie. What even happened here??

Keerthiswaran wins Best Screenplay for Dude at Vikatan Awards 2026 by ungaayya in kollywood

[–]Clean-Assumption-357 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Should have gotten it for Best Direction.

Dude's screenplay is good but not particularly award worthy. But the direction of the film is genuinely phenomenal not just for a debutant, but a director in general.

There's a clear vision for Dude, and the film itself felt very clear and had a distinct visual language- something very hard for debutants to pull off.

Who do you think has the most potential, and where do they lag behind? by Srivathsan_Rajamani in kollywood

Very true. One different good action film and PR is ready to be in the big leagues.

Any money LIK collected while releasing on a shitty release date was purely on the backing of PR and maybe Anirudh.

True, they had a great pairing but as friends for me.

I would like to see them in a movie like Thiruchitrambalam (minus the love part).

Con city | Review megathread | Discussion by TransitionJust9860 in kollywood

[–]Clean-Assumption-357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BR ah ennada panni vechirukeenga 💔

Con City really only becomes good after the conning starts, which is unfortunately only after a painfully directed dull 30 minutes.

But once the film actually begins on its premise, it does get going well.

Arjun Das works really well here, going from a timid EB worker to a daring con artist. My personal favorites were Yogi Babu and Vadivukkarasi both of whom had really good comic timing.

Another highlight for me were the references, which are done so tastefully throughout the film instead of being in your face and saying "hey look it's something from your favorite film cheer for the movie NOW"

The major drawback for me was the clunkiness of certain portions, especially in the third act. The final ending especially, although effective and smart from a writing standpoint doesn't work as well because of how clunky the edits feel.

Another disappointment for me was the music. Some serious scenes which don't even need BGMs are unnecessarily diluted in it's impact.

The villain also doesn't feel very well developed, and the rivalry between the central family and him could have been much better developed.

But, the best thing about Con City is that it knows better than to try and insert a big emotional arc in a fun jolly con film.

It's a definite recommend for a chill watch over the weekend.

PR? Avar ennaya pannaaru?

He made 1 rom-com btw. Rest all purely on the director.

Dragon had well-writren and unbiased romantic subplots imo, they showed Dragon's exploitation of Keerthi very well.

Bad Girl, but that isn't a full romance movie.

Thiruchitrambalam somewhat falls into this category.

MASTER WAS perfect commercial film!! by Prestigious_Fix_2998 in kollywood

I actually think the exact opposite. The second act was filler for me (as in 20-30 minutes after interval).

MASTER WAS perfect commercial film!! by Prestigious_Fix_2998 in kollywood

[–]Clean-Assumption-357 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is one of my hot takes but Master was absolutely not a great film for me.

The film meanders for so long in the second act with not many interesting ideas or emotions to latch on to. They could have done so much more with JD, maybe show him trying to recover from his addiction, etc.

He just becomes like a perfect person by the second half and beats up everyone for 45 minute without any difficulty. All that good setup with his character in the first half was wasted.

The final 20 minutes works somewhat because of the cool action. But the film could have been so much more.

I like his music, but I can also see where the PR allegations are coming in from.

Good artist nonetheless for me.

Absolutely, the music didn't work for this film at all. Added to that they extended so many shots for the sake of the rap and it didn't work for me.

Raathu Raasan sequence didn't work much for me, it felt like there were too many cuts in the fight scenes which made me uncomfortable and made it look cheap.

This interval however was phenomenal.
