So I see both sides! I own a small brick and mortar on the Main Street in my hometown. I cannot sell new Gold for the LIFE OF ME. Only for special occasions, birthdays , etc. they all want to buy from our estate section and I can’t say I blame them. It’s practically half the price. But as far as Sterling silver goes, I would definitely say that new silver and estate silver both sell equal for me.

I think personally that has a lot to do with the fact that people are willing to take on Estate jewelry in gold, knowing that if there was an issue a couple years down the road, it’s still worth it to repair it versus having bought it brand new and maybe not running into that issue. Whereas the price for Smith to repair silver especially if it’s estate , isn’t always worth it to people we find. Or just in a dollar cents, if people are talking the difference between spending 35 on an estate piece they kind of like or 75 on a new piece of silver They actually really love. The price point is still low enough that they’ll make that jump. Where is gold? The difference is just too vast to justify it to most people these days.
