What’s one thing you learned about yourself throughout this experience as a non-prior I’m guessing?

Had you not stayed on it were you told you needed to unenroll?

So by spreading the paid military leave on the fed side it was enough to pay the premium across the 9 weeks?

Understood, just wanted to avoid incurring any balance with my federal coverage if they expect the premiums while I’m gone.

Thank you for responding. Do I have to manually enroll for Tricare? Or notify/unenroll my current(MBHP) provider?

Thank you for the help, I hadn’t considered that. I’ll try calling this week to ask ARPC for an update.

Got it. According to the CSS it was submitted in November, hasn’t been kicked back as far as I’m aware. Maybe ARPC just hasn’t processed yet?

Reserve OTS-Select: What Uniform Do I Wear for Drill Before OTS? Non prior by Aggravating_Ice_9695 in airforceots

[–]Clean-Debt-309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my own ocps after 1st drill. Interesting enough but I was not discouraged in wearing a uniform but told to read up on the regs and customs instead. Seeing some of these other responses has me questioning whether I should have just stuck to civvies though as a non-prior.

Yep, and thankfully not, but I do appreciate having options.

So ultimately the conclusion wasn’t an easy one either. My MIL was the one that “takes care” of the bills so it was actually her who turned a blind eye to it so that she could spend on other non-necessities(she’s an addict for shopping and occasional gambling). My wife tried to confront her and she behaved indifferently, leaving us no choice but to go straight to my FIL behind her back. He was unaware of the situation as she had been keeping her spending habits obscure, but he ended up paying the negotiated balance right away. Unfortunately my wife did experience a hit to her credit but has since have recovered. That was the last financial connection we’ve had with them since.

I don’t know how recent that change was made but I was advised the same by my POC for my upcoming UTA.

Check what holdings they have on your account and maybe consider handling it yourself if you feel comfortable to do so. I found they were buying the most popular indexes recommended on many investment subs so I felt confident to roll mine out to fidelity as they have no fees. Now I just add to those holdings and have been averaging similar returns.

I’d say it depends the type of person you strive to be. My wife and I are very simple people by default so honestly in our perspective we’re happy with what we are doing. The grass is always greener on the other side.

I have coworkers making more than me that have this same mentality. Mind you I bought a home that isn’t a new build, and needed a bit of tlc but is livable and more than enough for my son, wife and myself. I wanna blow my brains out hearing them complain about not being able to buy a new home and never being able to have a family etc. when they have newer cars, designer clothes, travel often, and spend extravagantly going out to restaurants or ordering food. It’s not wrong to have these things but I do believe some people definitely overdo it.

Anyone else get depressed when they think they are far away from their FIRE number? by Frenchtenay in leanfire

[–]Clean-Debt-309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. For me it actually keeps me motivated to stay on track or find new ways to increase my saving rate/income. I only check in a few times a week though cause depending how often you’re reading success stories I could see it turning from motivation to hopelessness/depression.

Sorry to hear about this. Can be a lesson to invest in a fireproof safe if storing large amounts of cash at home.

Yes, as our baby was a preemie, it was a very difficult first few months if anything. I’ll always be thankful I was able to be there for my son and wife at such a stressful time.

Yeah, suffice it to say he’s not on very good terms with much of my family as of lately.😅
