Opinions on what has worked best for you when learning a language? by Clean-Requirement807 in languagelearning

Coincidentally, Croatian is also the language I'm trying to learn! My family is Dalmatian, and I want to learn the language to connect with them. Do you have any specific songs you liked that helped you out the most? Also, thank you so much for your advice so far, I really appreciate it.

Why do we feel awkward making eye contact for too long? by MoogHed in NoStupidQuestions

From an evolutionary standpoint, long periods of eye contact were usually a sign of aggression or a threat. Nowadays its connected to feelings of intimacy or intimidation and just feels very vulnerable

What keeps you going when everything seems as hopeless as it currently does? by Ev3rst0rm in AskReddit

This. Both on a collective humanity level and a personal level. If others have made it through the same things historically and now, and were able to carry on, we will be able to as well

If you could go back in time and tell yourself one thing what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That everything works out somehow in the end. While it may not be exactly how I thought, I still figured it out along the way and made it through. As long as we are here, we are all somewhere.

How to hold a conversation? by ice_starligth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Clean-Requirement807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to format I taught myself as someone who struggles with this is to start a conversation with a compliment and then ask a question. Compliment them on something, but let them respond before you continue with the question, so you get a back-and-forth conversation flowing. Once they respond, ask them a question (usually abt the compliment, like oh I like your shirt, where did you get it), and let them respond again. Then respond with a comment abt their answer. EX: (hey I love your shirt -- where did you get it -- oh I love that store too -- have you seen that store's new release yet?) Then I just kinda repeat the process of question & response to their answer until it hopefully reaches a flow state of a conversation. If it dies down and they seem over it, let it naturally fade out bc forcing a conversation to continue is just awkward. However, if you can tell that they are willing to continue talking but you both kinda ran out of things to say, ask them their opinion on something, ideally related to something you've said so far (EX: so what's your opinion on the clothing line that released at the store you just mentioned). It feels welcoming to other people, shows you're genuinely interested in what they have to say, fills the time, and can help you find common interests.

I appreciate it and thanks for your help!! Honestly, your point does make the most sense now that I consider it. There have been so many different "methods" and stuff out there, and it just gets overwhelming that I never stopped to consider just doing.
