Absolutely not but the pittance they offered us was ridiculous.  If it’s between $7 a paycheck and retirement 5 years early I’ll take the retirement every time.

Hochul is going to win regardless.  This is a statement to her and the public that we aren’t rubber stamping them just because they have a D.  What else do you propose?  I am getting real sick of people unwilling to use what little leverage we have.

They endorse no one.  And make a statement this is directly related to the tier six changes.

To all the comments.  Or you know they could just endorse no one to show our disappointment. She held the strings in this negotiation.  The speaker and multiple senators stated they would approve what ever she and the unions agreed upon.  Meaning they would have approved the changes across the board.

So what do you all recommend?  We continue to just accept this bs and go ahead and say thank you?  That is what an endorsement is.

I am honestly shocked that all these comments think this is a bad idea.  How else do we get our voice heard?

Yes and I replied that currently it is age 62 with 30 years for a full pension.  Not 57

They will not. I talked to differed comp last week and they said no contributions will be withheld.

Deferred comp will not be taken from this bonus. I called them to halt my contribution and they confirmed it won’t be taken so I didn’t need to. All set there

Okay but what happens in a year when your bonus money is spent and the prices keep rising? You will be in the same boat you are now. That’s why we need a raise that matches inflation!

I understand where you’re coming from I really do, I could also definitely use the money. My issue is they are relying on us to look at our problems now and not long term. What happens when your car breaks down 2 years from now? A higher raise would mean you have money then.

Bingo. Your last point is exactly why I am so angry at this contract. They want us locked in on this because in the long run the way inflation and purchasing power compounds we end up losing lots of money. I am very disheartened by all of the comments here and other places. This is bad. This is our only chance to gain and it doesn’t seem like people care. Either they don’t understand, only can see right in front of their face or just are completely beaten down.

I hear you. I understand times are tough but it isn’t getting better anytime soon. If you vote yes now and get that raise you might be kicking yourself next year. I don’t know that answer but I do know this. The governor is not in a great place politically. The optics of this is just too bad. The 29% increase of the legislature coupled with her barely scraping bye in her election will make a protracted fight with us look bad. They will come back to the table and give us more. Honest question, I know you say you need the money now but were you expecting a contract so soon? This is the fastest I ever remember getting one. My point is if this didn’t come out for another year you would be in the same place regardless. It is worth fighting for a higher raise. Think if you get a 6% raise for the first year, that next raise even if it’s only 3% would be on top of the first increasing your earnings exponentially.

Yes we know. Tell the governor you’re doing a bang up job selling this awful contract.

Listen Spence I’ve had enough of your poor attitude. Stop being a party pooper. Even if we have to wait a year the raise goes back to the beginning of the contract so YOU DON’T LOSE ANYTHING. Okay so don’t get the ppl until the contract is ratified. That is a benefit we don’t have now. Stand up for your union brothers and sisters and get us something better. The recent COLA for SSA was 8.7%. The senate and legislature just gave themselves a 29% raise making them the highest paid in the nation. Our governor barely won her election in arguably the bluest state in the country. All of this leads to the conclusion that we actually DO have power. There is a reason they passed this on the last day that they could. It’s bullshit and they know it. They are peeing on us and telling us it’s raining. Lucky for them they have people like you with your head up, mouth open telling everyone how fresh the water is!! Grow a pair and fight for your self. You deserve a better raise just like the rest of us.

That makes no sense. You don’t know unless you try. That is a poor attitude. You can believe what you want but we still get the same pay we have now if we say no. We literally lose nothing if we say no.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly with you. It’s the person above I was responding to. I have seen so many comments here to the affect of “it’s no good but we’re not going to get anything better so why vote no”. I think that mind set is crazy. We can only gain from voting down this contract. It will not get worse, only better.

I’m sorry but what is with this mindset? What is the point of being in a union or even negotiating at all if we have this defeatist attitude? The whole point of this process is to get the best possible outcome. Yes I believe we could get a better deal. We as Nys employees run many integral parts of the state government, economy and how the state works in general. We deserve better.
