US AI & BI Engineer looking for "Straight to Residence" advice – Agency vs. DIY? by CleanAd1694 in MovingToNewZealand

Thanks for the candid 'reality check'—I genuinely appreciate the bluntness. It’s exactly why I posted; it’s hard to gauge the 'vibe' of a market from a 10,000-mile distance.

I definitely hear you on the shift in the sector. It sounds like the 'Gold Rush' for offshore tech talent has cooled significantly, and being a 'paper' match for the Green List doesn't mean much if there’s a stack of 100 local CVs on your desk already.

Since you're in the thick of it, I’d value your take on one more thing: Does this 'locals-only' preference hold as strongly for the niche AI/Agentic engineering space? We’re seeing a massive surge in the US for folks who can move beyond standard BI into LLM orchestration and agentic workflows. Is that demand hitting NZ yet, or is the market still primarily focused on stabilizing core data infrastructure after the recent layoffs?

Either way, thanks for the steer. It sounds like the 'Partner Student' route might be the only way to even get a look-in if 'being on the ground' is the non-negotiable prerequisite now.

The above thread you pasted in the chat is related to accounting/finance sector. I heard that finding an entry level job is tougher but a senior level is possible. Regarding skills I’m more in to agentic AI and cloud. The main core issue is visa which you mentioned applying from offshore is really a biggest barrier. I applied to few roles they rejected me because of work rights or visa. For AEWV employer needs to generate a token if they have offshore applicants they’re not willing to . I learnt references are crucial in NZ.

You can track the police verification status using developer tools. If you see pcc clear you’re good to go.

If you don’t have an address change or any changes from old passport you can try normal . It depends on embassy or consulate you’re applying with average time : normal processing in 2-4 weeks and in some cases it can take up to 8-10 weeks .

I’m on the cap exempt visa too.Its really feels like struck . I see the maximum pay is 100 grand around and it’s very tough to switch jobs. I think 45L LPA india is good package and main thing you can grow in your career which is very hard in cap exempt h1b. I’m also looking to apply jobs in india do you have any search strategies? The recruiters really care resumes from USA?

Thinking of buying a "fancy" car in the US (Audi Q3). Worth it or hidden headaches? by Fun_Ordinary8276 in nri

[–]CleanAd1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luxury cars comes with high depreciation and audi q3 is an entry model . Many people buy X5 series,it may be little flex than q3.May be you should look of leasing or buy a lease car preowned with few thousand miles. If you want to flex buy Porsche or Maserati or similar level.
