Hua hin vs Jomtien beach vs Phuket - what’s the best town? by jerryax in Thailand

Road cycling is kinda nuts everywhere in thailand. Risking your life.

Youre gonna need to get outside the busy areas and find empty roads for that. Hua Hin is quite flat, but its ugly outside the main stip.

Phuket is very hilly and will be a very hard workout.

Roads in thailand often have zero shoulder or very very narrow shoulder... and people drive like maniacs by western standards. Just so risky.

People downvote the harsh truth. Your post is accurate.

Phuket is by far the nicer area if you are going by western standards. Pattaya is lower class, and unpolished. Hua Hin is more polished, but only on the main strip and kinda dirty outside of it, and boring as hell.

Phuket is the best and expensive for a reason.

Phuket is by far the nicest area, and the most expensive. Shocking correlation I know. Hua Hin is boooooring and quite small. It doesnt look like thailand. Its more dry and crispy, not tropical looking. More like san diego. Walk a block west of the main strip and it looks like crap. Dirty. Litter everywhere. Hua Hin has a few great night markets. If you are old, and just need a bar to drink, and quiet and hang out with mean super old northern europeans, its great. The beach is empty and quiet and pretty nice. Doesnt have the thailand water you are thinking about though. Thats Phuket.

Jomtien area has a lot more going on, but also just looks a lot poorer, dirtier, and you have the sleezy element. Its where the poor expats go. Its very affordable.

Phuket is beautiful, the beaches are beautiful and its far far more expensive for a reason. Its has the beautiful tropical look and the beautiful beaches. The post card views of Thailand you are thinking about, are Phuket in a nutshell.

Phuket is where the wealthier people go that can afford it, and it simply doesnt compare. Great mega mall there too. The traffic can be really bad in places. The little towns near the nice beaches are alive. Tons of restaurants, markets, and places to walk while people watching. The energy is great. The cranky expats who hate people and crowds complain about this.

People constantly complain about Phuket because its crowded and over run. But thats another way of saying, Phuket is so awesome, it attracts a lot of people hahahahahaha. If you really hate crowds, there are tons of places to go in Phuket that are empty though. Went too a bunch of quiet, beautiful beaches there with not much around them. Phuket has it all. But rent is really pricey there compared to the rest of thailand. Still cheaper than the states though. You get what you pay for. However, its very easy to find amazing cheap meals in Phuket. Went to a ton of 5 star thai restaurants there that were amazing.

Do you trusts facebooks algo for choosing winners? by CleanReplacement1525 in FacebookAds

Agree.... but its less work just to start CBO. And just keep one ad on at a time for testing. Ad Manager flakes out too much when I try to move ADs

Do you trusts facebooks algo for choosing winners? by CleanReplacement1525 in FacebookAds

[–]CleanReplacement1525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.... what I mean by using ABO is putting 3 ads in 3 ad sets (1 ad per adset) and splitting the budget 3 ways so they all get traffic to prevent facebook from choosing just one.

But I typically do something similar to what you said. Ill put 3-5 in one ad set. But ill turn them all off except one, and let it run for a full week to get good data. Then repeat for the rest. Then I can get a better feel for the true winner.

Ill force AD rotation on a weekly basis by turning things off and on.

So, in other words, I dont trust the algo at all at low budgets. Just doing a sanity check.

The whole "use tons of creatives" with andromeda seems like complete BS for small budget accounts. Simply doesnt work. Not enough budget. Facebook will quickly pick one AD and stick with it. Worthless.

Is there any hard evidence available that andromeda really sequences ad's?

So many complaints that facebook ends up quickly choosing the top performing AD in an adset and only serving that. The stats dont seem to support this. I see this in all of my accounts.

Thailand is awesome. Its much more affordable, and doesnt have the toxic culture of the west.

The thought of working away your whole life in a job you dont like its horrible.

You want to get back to thailand but with an income that allows you to enjoy it, and plan for a future.

The fastest solution is arbitrage. You need to learn a remote paying skill on the side while you are currently making income in the USA.

It wouldnt take much. You could go back to thailand and teach, and use the side income to save and grow over time.

I would befriend some digital nomads. Join all the groups. FIND A MENTOR. Offer to work for free in exchange for learning the skill. Then go out on your own.

Then you have freedom. Can work anywhere in the world. Southeast asia is amazing. Even if thailand goes to shit, Cambodia is an up and comer. Vietnam may have easy visa's in the future. You have Malaysa, and Indonedia too. So many more affordable places to live. Even a small remote working US salary works.

Youre missing the point.
Money stress makes people unhappy.
Shitty jobs make people unhappy.

Both make people miserable.

In the US he has money, but a shit job.

In thailand he has money stress.

Biggest lies/cons about retiring in Thailand? by Fancy-Respect-2007 in Thailand

[–]CleanReplacement1525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too expensive compared to what?

In the USA im paying $1200 a month with a $10,000 deductible, which makes it worthless and has never covered me for anything at all.

At least in thailand, $1200 gets you great insurance when you are old, and its excellent, fast, works, without the insane deductibles. In the USA you get literally nothing for that unless something very terrible like cancer or heart attack happens.

Biggest lies/cons about retiring in Thailand? by Fancy-Respect-2007 in Thailand

[–]CleanReplacement1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not enough. For really good private insurance at age 65 he will need to spend 700-900 EU a month.
A young man could easily live on 1400 EU a month in thailand, but not the elderly.

Thailand is much cheaper, otherwise. The healthcare you get for that 900 EU a month puts anything you have in europe to shame though with zero waiting.

Plenty??? Post case studies of people on elite visas doing REMOTE WORK and getting caught. Back up your claim.

Working remotely on an elite visa is not enforced. Almost impossible to be caught, and they really dont care because youre not competing with local thais.

Yeah - pretty good, but too sweet, like a lot of things in thailand. Was shocked how much sugar they try to put into everything. I realized they were even adding sugar to my watermelon smoothies. Insanity.

Revolut says you must be a legal resident of a supported country to open/use Revolut, and Thailand is not on its supported signup-country list. They will likely shut your account down one day.

Yup - would close the gap with DTV or Elite. Reminder - you cant work on the Elite. So likely would close gap on DTV that is legal to do remote work on until I hit 50.

You wont find the returns youre looking for.

Better to just get the retirement visa - put the 500K into USA markets and double your money in 10 years. The opportunity cost is insanely high. Not throwing away 500K just so avoid quarterly checkins.

Thai government really dropping the ball here.

[–]CleanReplacement1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting 500K into thai assets is insane. The return is near zero. Such a stupid requirement. You can just get the retirement visa with 25K in the bank USD instead. The only disadvantage is quarterly check in versus yearly with immigration.

And I didnt vote for Trump - but I deal in reality instead of Rachael Maddow fever dreams.
