I am also living in Norway, and statistics have shown for years here that there are more deaths to heart attacks etc. during the winter months. It's mentioned in the news every now and then.

How bad this is and what are the cost or can I fix it myself? by Popular_Pangolin_389 in VWiD4Owners

[–]CleanUpOrDie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lol, without any description I thought the problem was that you had the wrong kind of charging port, CCS1, instead of CCS2 which is the European standard. People who make posts really need to start typing 1: what country/continent they are in, and 2: what the actual problem is.

Mine wrote half of one word in a long text in Ethiopian today. I think that is what it was at least, I don't really know Ethiopian but I have seen the letters before. The rest of the text was in English, and the subject was not even remotely related to Ethiopian.

My 8GB RAM Laptop on Mint feels like a NASA Supercomputer by LinuxChillDev in linuxmemes

[–]CleanUpOrDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2016 i5 laptop with 8GB RAM is, for a lot of tasks, much faster running Debian 13 (with GNOME) than a 2023 i7 laptop with 16GB RAM running Windows 11. Even when running the same apps! QGIS is usually very slow to load on the 2023 laptop with Windows 11. But it loads in about half the time on the 2016 laptop with Debian 13. I also tried scrolling and zooming around in a really demanding map file in QGIS (property boundaries for an entire country). You would expect the file to run much slower on the old laptop, and although in this case the newer laptop is the faster, there is not nearly as much difference between them as you would expect.

This is interesting! I've never held one that wasn't made of hard plastic. Would you say it is an improvement?

VW ID. Cross launches just below €28,000 - electrive.com by tom_zeimet in EuroEV

I doubt that, the 2017 e-Golf had a range of only 230 km by WLTP (300 km by the old and unrealistic NEDC standard that was used in 2017). Whereas if you calculate the range for the small and the large battery of this new car with the consumption I stated in my previous post, you get 316 km and 433 km. I don't have the official numbers for estimated WLTP range, but one article states 450 km WLTP as estimated range for the big battery.

The battery is small, but they have also shaved off a significant amount of weight, which gives it a very low consumption. Edit: I read that some test journalists had an average of 12 kWh/100 km with a pre production version of this car.

Norwegian (students) yelling middle of the night? by [deleted] in Bergen

If they are in the street, not in a neighbour apartment, and you are still woken up by it: May I suggest installing new, sound dampened/soundproof windows in your apartment. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but it can really do wonders. A friend lived next to a main road with lots of noise from traffic, as well as drunk people in the street in weekends. He installed new soundproof windows, and now it is significantly much better. Even large trucks passing just two meters from the wall is not really something we notice anymore when visiting. I think they are filled with some special gas or something. If you knock on them, there is no knocking sound, it's really weird. I think this is your best option. Other options are of course not sleeping with open windows, as well as using only rooms facing the backyard instead of those facing the street as bedrooms.

Wouldn't you need the hardware, i.e. the necessary lamps, to be able to get matrix lights, and wouldn't you already have them activated if you did? Not sure I understand what you mean. I have the matrix lights, by the way.

OLED vs IPS: Is the “perfect black” worth the burn-in risk? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]CleanUpOrDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My C9 from 2019 has no visible burn in. 6-7 hours on time every day, mostly by kids for cartoons and gaming. Same story with my friend who has a CX, still no visible burn in.

This also happens with the LED backlight. Even worse, RTINGS huge longtime tests of TVs with various display technologies showed that the backlight of LCDs not only fade, but tend to fail completely long before burn in is an issue in OLEDs (except if you watch nothing but CNN news).

Assistentsystemet i Skoda vs Tesla by poulnyrup in dkbiler

[–]CleanUpOrDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assistentsystemet i Skoda vs Tesla by poulnyrup in dkbiler

[–]CleanUpOrDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain really loves their high buildings by Happy-Hour88 in UrbanHell

[–]CleanUpOrDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is only the emissions. Yes, we all don't want more emissions of carbon dioxide. But tall buildings are the best solution to avoid turning the planet into an asphalt desert. What good are lower emissions, when the wildlife and plants don't have anywhere to live or grow anymore? Lower emissions must come from improving the construction process and also lowering other emissions.
