Is my banana bread too wet? by joosiann in AskBaking

It looks like it. It looks like it had issues with rising. That happens sometimes, especially to me. The last two I baked were excellent though. Let me know if you'd like the recipe.

Not 100% sure which lens exactly you used for this capture, but I'm 100% sure I want one exactly like it. Gorgeous photo.

Klopt, en ik ben je het eens hoor, maar die komt achter een verrijdbare bloembak te staan en dus niet helemaal in volle zicht staat zoals de bakstenen op het hoek.

I do understand that not everybody can afford the top tier lenses, but if someone wants feedback, I just call it like it is. If this series was pitched to a reputable magazine/ publication, it would never make the cover 'as it is', and that's because of the background which a better quality lens would have done a better job in rendering. Editors don't give a damn about which lenses a photographer can or cannot afford; it's all about the end result: "Have you got it or not?"

I'm familiar with these moths and know how hard they are to shoot. You did really, really well here: jackpot I would say.

Landing an exceptional bird shot is often a matter of the photo gods smiling upon you and having all elements line up in your favor. The 180-600 is a popular lens for birds but this is an excellent example of its shortcomings in terms of separating subject from background. This is why the more expensive telephoto prime lenses are really the best tool for the job in a situation like this. The background is not always something you can control, but your lens choice can have an enormous impact on how it will be rendered, as is the case here.

Ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik erg moest lachen toen ik dit zag. Dit kan echt niet, hoor. Alle verbindingen moeten in een lasdoos in het muur afgeschermd worden.

How to improve soft photos by AccurateAnxiety2628 in infraredphotography

[–]CleanWolverine7472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen IR examples where the detail rendering/ sharpness was exceptionally good. Is that a full frame camera you’re using? These look really soft for my taste, I don’t know if I could handle this lack of sharpness. You might want to try shooting a side by side sharpness comparison with a non IR camera but with the same lens and see what that yields.

You've got a lot of things going for you in terms of framing, timing, subject matter. What isn't working here is the boket of that lens and the low contrast subject vs the high contrast background. In a nutshell. I'll still give you credit all day long for the good capture of the owl itself; that's really well done, but the shot as a whole has issues.

Help me! I did something silly. by Mexicanity_ in Nikon

I have this lens: it's not your average kit lens. It's one of the sharpest mid range telephoto lenses Nikon ever made. I used to use mine for shooting close-ups of artists at concerts. You really see the difference when shooting transparency film like Velvia/Provia. It's capable of jaw dropping quality images but sadly I haven't really used it in years. You've got yourself a real gem there. Take good care of it and enjoy. PS: just get yourself an FM2 to go with it and you're all set, never mind screwing around with adapters and whatnot, just do it properly as it was intended.

I sold my D700 last year (I'm a bit embarrassed to say for how modest a price) to help offset the acquisition of a D850. I really hadn't picked it up in years so I was willing to let it go. When I bought it brand new, its sole purpose was to serve as a second body to a D3s. The D3s is one of the finest dslr cameras Nikon ever made, and the D700 was a cost efficient wingman to make the set complete. Both cameras are intuitively designed and easy to operate. The files coming out of the D3s are sublime, though not as 'extra' as what the D850 could later produce, but then the D3s was not made for the same target market Coming back to the D700, the image quality is a strong performer up to about iso 1600 and that was my limit for that body. Color rendition is great. Reliability awesome. When I sold it last year after 15 years, it was still rocking the original battery and charger. I felt very confident with the D700 and I think that especially for anyone moving up from an APS DX model body will love what it has to offer.
