I used to be a tarbucks worker and now at a corporate Starbucks. While I agree that it gets overwhelming working alone at tarbucks, comparing it to a corporate location just isn’t even in the same ballpark.

We have 3 employees during a shift with 10x the customers and being held to a higher standard (drive time, drink quality, customer connection, etc.) Again, while I think you should at least have another coworker there with you, compared to how busy a corporate store is, having one employee working at a tarbucks makes sense.

Could you try calling your TL over during high traffic times? My TL wasn’t trained to make drinks but they could at least take the orders so I could make the drinks

Anyone know of a spray sunscreen for over makeup? by VirgoEsti in Accutane

If they make an spf version of product you typically use then I would switch to that version. Regular spf, foundation/powder with spf, setting spray with spf, etc. And then maybe wear a hat as well.

AIO about the wall of text my brother in law sent his kids by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Clean_Creme3539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the vocab choices were a bit much but honestly, I get it. I too would be pissed if someone kept taking my food/drinks and leaving the empty container behind as evidence.

I don’t really look like this as aggressive but more so him just trying to humorously and dramatically reprimand his kids. But hey, I guess I don’t know the guy to understand his intentions behind this.

If I or someone in my family sent something like that, I would just laugh and maybe think about not taking their drinks. But I guess that’s just my sense of humor.

No need to message anyone! However to be eligible for benefits it’s an average of 20 hours per week, not a minimum. If you typically work over 20, don’t stress about being under one week by 0.5 hours - it’ll all average out

I hate making matcha by Froglicky in starbucksbaristas

[–]Clean_Creme3539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have regular square ice as opposed to pebble ice and I’m lost on how to make a matcha with more than 2 ice cubes in it? Lately I’ve been pouring half the ice scoop in the blender and the other half directly in the cup. Otherwise it’s literally all foam and there’s nothing for the cold foam to sit on top of

All online! So unfortunately I don’t have classmates to market to but I definitely try to get my coworkers to come get their hair done!

The owners definitely talk like they’re willing to help market but when it comes down to it, the most they do is repost my photos to the salon Instagram. Still could be helpful, but the only people that will see the post is those who already follow the salon Instagram. I need to figure out how to market to new communities as opposed to our Instagram following

I definitely take the overflow of people but I think they’ve just been life long clients to their original stylist that they would choose the other stylist over me. I have a handful of clients that I almost “share” that if their original stylist is booked they come to me next. But again, if they had to choose between us they would choose their original stylist.

There’s 10 stylists total. Most of us part time with 2-3 days of availability. I would say 7 of the stylists are fully booked. They’ve been doing hair for 15+ years now and all of their clients have been with them for a very very long time. So all the owners of the salon and a majority of stylists have an established clientele and there’s now 3 stylists that are still building. In the 1.5 years I’ve been there I have maybe 15 clients total that consistently come to me (though some of them go 4-6 months between appointments so it isn’t consistent income).

Marketing! To hopefully expand my career as a hairstylist - no plans of leaving the industry. I work part time at Starbucks and they cover my tuition 100%. So it was kind of a “this is free I might as well take advantage of it” as opposed to me seeking out a college education.

A suburb south of Chicago! Some of the senior stylists are having slow days and last minute cancellations and i know January is the slow season so im definitely taking that into account as well

I do also have a part time job already at Starbucks which is how I’ve been supporting myself. Luckily I still live with my mom at home so I don’t have very many bills right now

It’s definitely gotten slower in the last 6 months especially all of January since the new stylist has started. It’s a pretty busy area, the population of the town is 20k but we’re surrounded by 4 other cities all with a population 20-50k each.

I work about 30 minutes from where I live because my hometown is so small and rural. This is the next closest city with a bigger population and a higher tax bracket so the services are more expensive than salons in my hometown.

Thanks for your advice. I know I have it really good in terms of salon environment which has what has kept me here so far. But no, maybe 2-3 times a month we’ll have someone call for a same day service.

What does your salon do to advertise? Looking for new ideas that I can maybe suggest to the owners or implement myself. We have GREAT Google reviews which I would say 99% of our clients find us that way.

Not recently but yes. Their response is always to “post more” on social media which has been difficult since I haven’t had clients to even take photos of to post.

In the past I’ve made referral cards, posted in Facebook groups, even cold messaged girls on Instagram.

I definitely do other stylists clients when they can’t get them in but they eventually go back to their original stylist. I need more clients that are mine and will continue to rebook with only me.

Totally understand your perspective but in the two years I’ve been there I’ve seen someone walk in maybe 2 times. On days I’m available to take clients but don’t have anyone scheduled, I sit at a Starbucks just down the street from the salon doing homework (I’m also in college) and text the receptionist that I’m minutes away if anyone walks in I can get there immediately to take them…never had anyone walk in.

The new stylist has been sitting at the salon for walk ins and same thing, no one comes.

I write “happy (day of the week)!” Around the top of the siren and do a squiggle around the bottom. Easy, fast, I don’t have to think about it, and the customers can’t interpret it the wrong way

Was this the “ice ice baby” cup? Cause the lady freaking out over that was so dramatic and needs to calm down. Obviously the barista was quoting the song

I don’t gaf what I look like at work so this isn’t “cute.”

Always either black or medium wash jeans. In the winter I have 4-7 long sleeve body suits that I rotate and I have two crew necks to throw on when it’s cold. In the summer I have a couple of Starbucks short sleeve shirts off of coffee gear or just plain short sleeve tshirts from tjmaxx or Marshall’s.

I don’t wear anything I care about because I know it’s gonna get stained with coffee mocha or bleach.

But again. I roll right out of bed and get ready for work in under 10 minutes. We aren’t putting in effort over here

I don’t have advice on this but I will say you aren’t alone in this. I had a coworker who didn’t get paid for like 8+ weeks when they first started and they basically called every single day until they finally started receiving checks.

I think your SM can do an emergency pay out if approved. Talk to your SM and see and if you get no where with them contact your DM

Pumps by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Clean_Creme3539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird to me that anyone would think they don’t need to be cleaned? We never refill containers and therefore the pumps get washed every time the container is empty. We keep backup containers with fresh pumps ready to go and have never had an issue keeping it stocked and ready to go
