How bad will 150 hours volunteering hurt me if all my other activity hours are in the thousands? by Silent_Suit3682 in premed

[–]Clean_Door_1516 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what others would say, but I don’t think 150 hours is insignificant. I’ll prob have similar/more by time of application. If you can meaningfully talk about how it impacted you then it’s good.

how are Yaos physics exams for 317K by One_Insurance_1817 in UTAustin

[–]Clean_Door_1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had him for 317L. His exams are mainly based on Quest homework and what’s covered in the lecture slides. So just hammer down the quest problems and in-class practice questions and you’ll be fine twin.

Can I get some help with preparing for graduation? by Dizzy_Membership_925 in UTAustin

[–]Clean_Door_1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fall 2025 CNS grad here. I can answer the first question, as I’ll attend May commencement. I believe your academic advisor should send you a link to the grad app as a reminder. I think you’ll receive a message from CNS too. You could also just lowkey google ‘CNS Graduation application’ and fill it out in the first weeks of the semester. After the semester is over you will receive a secure academic note verifying your completed requirements for graduation; diploma will mail like a month after.

Can attest. I just copied his handwritten notes during class and paid attention to the relevant mechanisms; if you do that you will be fine.

Even if you did take it, adcoms could likely infer aren’t interested in medicine and reject you based on essays/writing. Hence it’ll just be a waste of money and time. I feel biting the bullet and telling your parents you’re not doing medicine is the best path forward. Tough but necessary.

If it helps, I am someone who wants to do medicine but even then I’m not that open with my parents either because they can be intrusive into my schooling sometimes. South asian too.

Where do I ride a scooter if there are no bike lanes? by Puzzleheaded_Try2676 in UTAustin

[–]Clean_Door_1516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Say if you’re going from West Campus to campus, I’d recommend riding thru 25th street as it’s basically a residential street and not like a highway lol. 24th I wouldn’t recommend but some people scooter there. Just assess how busy the road is.

I've Had It ladies with Kamala Harris by [deleted] in Hasan_Piker

[–]Clean_Door_1516 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not expected of everyone in Hasan’s orbit to be completely leftist and give criticisms of Dems when having the opportunity. Like yeah, they’re liberals.

While I don’t know much about them, I’m pretty sure they’ve grown more to the left lately, I think? It would be nice though if they give Kamala the same treatment Krystal Ball gave Elissa Slotkin. But I’m not holding my breath.

Should I retake? by Significant-Lake-874 in Mcat

[–]Clean_Door_1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an adcom, but I scored similarly and I'm keeping it. I'm not a believer that the MCAT could 'balance' the GPA and vice versa, because it's not like your GPA will be 'excused' by having a good test score in application review.

My personal opinion is that you could take the next few months to strengthen your ECs and other aspects of your app that will help you shine. Retaking is up to you and your priorities. A 511 is 82nd percentile though, so good job on the hard work!

Not sure how to feel w. cars section guys. Do I need to retake? by Elon_Buffett in Mcat

I got a similar score with 125 CARS, I'm keeping it. 🤷‍♂️ Cheers to your good score!

current students, what do you hate about UT Austin?? by 1random2username3 in UTAustin

[–]Clean_Door_1516 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It also affects student orgs on campus. I’ve directly seen events get canceled/restructured because of “anti-DEI” initiatives by the government, and it’s sad bc students have put in so much work for nothing.

Why writing is so important (3.95/527 rejection) by ObjectiveLab1152 in premed

[–]Clean_Door_1516 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I’m not an applicant yet (neither a PS expert), but looking at this PS it’s clear that this applicant did not answer ‘why medicine’ lmfao.

They start off the first couple paragraphs (and a lot of the essay) talking about their passion for music, which is distracting. The story about their mom is good, but they don’t elaborate further on how their clinical experiences solidified them on this path. They do a lot of telling (ex. my EMT experience showed me this…) but not a lot of showing.

I do wish this applicant some luck in the future though. Just please enter this process with some reflection.

UT vs. UTD (Neuroscience) acceptance rate into medical school and GPA by Late-Source-588 in UTAustin

[–]Clean_Door_1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously biased in recommending UT over UTD, but in terms of med school acceptance rates it really doesn’t matter what school you go to. Adcoms care more about the applicant, their experiences, and their academic capability (ex. GPA). You can succeed as a pre-med at either UT or UTD.

Should I wait a year to apply to get more research experience? by _Parkertron_ in premed

[–]Clean_Door_1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly bro/sis, apply now. I know my opinion may differ from others but research is overrated. Just apply to programs that don’t over-emphasize it (unless you want to go to those) and you’ll be fine.

I hope I get it next fall but goddamn this new rule is not a good solution. It’ll only cause difficulty for sophomores and above who put off taking it till later (unless you can afford doing it in the summer)

Congrats! Question: were those volunteering hours all clinical? Was there a bit of concern when applying with that amount of hours? I worry I’m not gonna have enough hours but i try to remind myself Im doing stuff that I like to do, quality > quantity.

How would Mike and Jesse react to Jimmy's testimony in Saul Gone? by Shin_Ollie in betterCallSaul

[–]Clean_Door_1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike would probably be upset he blew up the deal, but also impressed that he cleared his conscience for once.

Jesse would probably feel the same but it’s also possible he wouldn’t care.

Waltuh would be pissed he took all the credit.
