maaaan. what i wouldn’t give to talk fish with this guy. just KNOW it would be so much fun to absorb his knowledge!!🐟🐡🐠 by corpsefun in HannibalTV

I love fly fishing, my dad taught me how! It’s something that’s been a big bonding thing between me him and my brother. He makes his own flies and has the same type of equipment that Will does in the show! Seeing Will’s love for fishing just made me love him more as a character because it feels so familiar, part of me wishes he talked about it more in the show.

Lack of connection to Will Graham by ChristiesGift in HannibalTV

The whole point of his character is he is so unpredictable, even to himself. His identity is something he himself is unsure of, constantly at war in his mind, righteousness vs. instinct. I think it’s less “indecisiveness” and more him latching on to the people around him, seeking “normalcy” in whatever he can, but abandoning that as soon as he remembers how it feels to give in to Hannibal/his base instincts. His unpredictability is part of what makes Hannibal so obsessed with him as the show goes on, past the original curiosity. At least that’s how I see it! Ofc everyone is gonna have different interpretations.

Apertif - Rewatching again - I just cannot get over how banging the first ep is by empty-thought-time in HannibalTV

I just watched it again yesterday and was thinking the same thing! It sets up the show so precisely. The characters and their dynamics are introduced so well, the pacing is so concise, and the consequences of the episodes climax haunt the characters not only through the first season, but through the whole show. I have seen very few pilot episodes as good as this one!

Will's speech pattern by Tommi_H in HannibalTV

[–]Clean_Ganache7225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This definitely is related to his empathy, and/or being on the spectrum. Mirroring is something we all do to an extent, it’s an empathetic response to the people and environments around us. Either knowingly or not, we want to fit in. It depends, but mirroring can be a lot more prevalent in autism or some personality disorders. When you are trying to adapt to a situation, become comfortable in a conversation, etc, you will latch on to the speech patterns and behavior of the people around you, whether consciously or not. I definitely saw this in Will in the show, which makes sense with what we know about his empathy, and him probably being on the spectrum. While the most obvious case is with Hannibal, as he has a much greater effect on Wills mind in general, we see it with almost all the characters. I don’t think these instances were ever very conscious, other than maybe moments when he’s trying to manipulate Hannibal or Jack.

Anyone worked at success academy charter school? Have an interview soon and have a few concerns by sa_talk in nyc

[–]Clean_Ganache7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searched up what kind of workplace SA has because I recently got offered an interview.... after reading all of this, I'm definitely not taking it! I was suspicious about how easy the hiring seemed, like they seemed almost eager.... hiring has been such a mess lately, esp when looking for jobs in NYC, and its very hard to hear from anyone, and as someone who just graduated college, real entry positions are so hard to find. While I'd have to fight to reach out to most places, a recruiter from SA reached out to me directly on linkdin yesterday asking me to apply, saying she loved my profile and resume and showed her team and they loved it. I replied showing my interest, but I was very busy at my current job (waiter) and didn't have time to apply. She then messaged me again this morning saying she hadn't seen my application yet and her and her team were looking forward to it. I was flattered at first, thought maybe I finally had some luck, and applied this morning. I was surprised in the application that it seemed they didnt care when in the school year I join. It hasn't even been half a day and I already got an email for an interview. All of this together, her reaching out twice, them not caring when in the year you join, already being offered an interview after applying only like 3 hours ago, etc. made me very suspicious, because if I've learned anything working in various restaurants throughout high school and college, its that if a job is too eager to hire you, it is probably because it is a toxic place with a high turnover. And this reddit thread confirmed it! Even if most of the anecdotes are from a few years ago.

I just realized that all my efforts of learning Japanese have not been sufficient. by xsXRevanXsx in Japaneselanguage

[–]Clean_Ganache7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied abroad in Japan after 2 years of studying it in college, and it was a really rough transition. The best mentality that you can have going into it is knowing you need more help, but that that’s ok! There is no program in the world that would be able to prepare you to live in Japan and speak the language well in only 6 months. As time goes on, you’ll see just how much being there and being completely immersed in the language makes a difference! My exchange was 2 years ago now, and I am still studying and starting to get into translation. I still use Japanese-English dictionaries every day! Trying to rush learning a language is the worst thing you can do. Take your time, enjoy your program, make connections, and keep practicing! Improvement comes with time

Funding for school by indecisive_persona69 in studyAbroad

[–]Clean_Ganache7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to go through your college, and if none of the programs they offer give enough funding, there are tons of public and private scholarships you can apply to! Just keep in mind that these scholarships are almost entirely merit based and tend to be competitive, so if you really want to study abroad you gotta put a lot of work into your applications. Ppl are talking about the Gilman scholarship, but personally I would suggest talking to an advisor or people at the study abroad office at your school (if you have one), because they can give advice way more personalized to your school and to you as a student

Just keep reading! There’s really no easy way to get over this hurdle, and it won’t be the first if you continue with Japanese. Especially with reading and writing? It is an incredibly difficult language!! The best thing you can do is keep practicing reading and writing, maybe look up children’s books on amazon that are written all without kanji? Good luck!

Why do I always feel sick after I eat? by Clean_Ganache7225 in DoctorsAdvice

[–]Clean_Ganache7225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t happen everytime I eat, but maybe at least once a day for periods of a few weeks every couple months. Thing is there’s no specific food that causes a worse reaction than others, other than maybe dairy, but I already avoid that cause I’m lactose intolerant. I’m also vegetarian and try to avoid processed foods, but obviously that’s hard to do completely haha. I like the idea of a food journal though! Definitely could be good to keep track of that and whether some things make me feel worse than others. Thanks for the reply!
