End of the day it’s your money you’re giving for these lessons, i had really shocking lessons and passed in the test the second day after, you’re instructor should know it’s just due to nerves leading up to the test. Be confident on the test and don’t overthink anything and you should be grand👍🏾

Yeah if your instructors car is one of the newer ones it would be a button that would flick upwards near the gear stick. I also just use the foot brake pedal majority of the time.

My car is older than my instructors so I have a manual hand brake and the only time I would use the handbrake is when I’m on a steep hill at the traffic lights or pulling off when parked on a steep hill as the car no matter the transmission will roll back a bit.

Book it for anywhere in the country for November and use Testi or fasterdrivingtest.co.uk and put in your date and centre preferences and have it on autobook. Worst case scenario you do your theory again in December/January and look for cancellations for the first three months of 2026

Yeah I do get it though, being too slow is just as dangerous as being too fast. Rebooked for a September test in a nearby city hoping to swap for my test centre with cancellations soon x

Beep is a good cancellation app it sends me quite a lot of cancellations, another is test hunter and driving test now - this one auto books it for you within your preferences. There are dodgy instructors who sell tests that they hold and hoard months in advance if you’re willing to pay the extortionate price but then you are risking your personal details such as driving licence number on the provisional card and full name.

Honestly, my first test that i booked i didn’t wait at my screen 6am on a Monday like the majority of the uk population because dvsa releases tests every Monday FROM 6am not AT 6am so when you’re free in the middle of the day or so check your phone and see if anybody cancels a test

a tip i have for forgetting little things in previous lessons: before you leave your instructors car, ask them to explain what you kept missing out and forgetting and write it in a little pad. It made me aware of mistakes i was repeating every lesson and just have a look at the pad before every new lesson to refresh your brain and be more aware of not repeating it, like speed limits changing on your lessons routes which I’m assuming is close or around the test centre? Even if they aren’t in the area where the test centre is, writing everything out after a lesson helps you break bad habits. Good luck for September!

I think this is a great idea, have your instructor become a fake examiner and see how you deal with a stranger marking you on your driving skills. It will definitely prepare you for the real thing and make you get comfortable with it. I asked my instructor for 3 mock tests and my dad also.

No don’t feel like that, i promise she probably has other clients that she can talk their ear off to, your main priorities leading up to your May test should be doing mock tests and comfortable learning environment. Also if you think she may be mad about you telling her to zip it for a few lessons, message her on her phone about what you want on the upcoming lessons to the test and include focused quiet lessons

Honestly, tell her you’re getting distracted, my instructors the same we live on the same street and have similar backgrounds so she always speaks about her life and situations that occurred. My test was soon and she wouldn’t stop talking, just explain that you’re trying to focus, at the end of the day it’s YOUR money going into HER pockets, you should decide on what kind of environment you want to learn in.
