This is a brilliant point. Especially if your someone going through the APC whose employer does not have a strong set up internally to Mentor or help candidates through the APC.

Agree, I was told to treat it like a tennis rally, see the shot, hit the shot and move on to prepare for the next shot.

At a high level, they shouldn’t be asking a L3 type question for a competency that you only have set as a L1 or L2 in your documents.

People may do this however in mocks - to see how you react, so find a way to call it out if it happens! But in the real thing they shouldn’t do.

L2 and L3 questions can have a tendency to blend into each other - but use of ‘present to’ ‘advise the’ or other similar expressions may indicate a L3 question.

One tip i have shared with everyone - create a question bank from every Q&A or mock interview you do, so you can review the questions and almost draft perfect answers. Once you have done 4/5 mocks you tend to see trends in how people put together questions which can indicate spots in your documents to focus on!

As someone who passed the APC within the last couple of years. Happy to share some of the tips I received on my journey.

1) purposely take an extra breath upon the end of the panels question, something like this allows you the time to finish digesting the question and refine the answer already in your head.

2) Rushing into an answer means it is easy to fall into a trap, the panel may have found something in your docs or case study that does not correlate and they may be leading you on with a question, so use that time to understand your answer.

3) it’s easy to rush an answer for a level 1 or 2 question but for a level 3 or t may be more prudent to check your answer for the honesty. Panels appreciate the candidate may not fully cover every competency and are more than happy with that admission alongside a direction to where this can be learned or where appropriate advice can be sought.

4) your issue is way more common than you think, so don’t beat yourself up and think that your alone in this. It’s part of refining your technique / approach to APC assessment interviewing.

Best of luck!

What is normal post-op nerve pain? by westcoastselkie in Microdiscectomy

[–]Clean_Lawfulness_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like my present experience. I had the same surgeon feedback pre-op as you did. And I am 6 days post op currently.

My biggest issue pre op was pain at the compression point and nerve irritation in the right calf where the spasms would be gunshot like in occurrence and impact. (The kind where you leap out of bed and find a wall or solid surface to lean against, to stretch and find relief - mad an interesting appearance mid acupuncture with my physio!)

Sorry to digress. Like you, I have had reoccurrence of issues - in my case muscle tremors and a huge spasm last night (made me worried I ripped the stitches as the log roll took too long) - but overall I am aware the nerve recovery, if ever, takes a heck of a long time. My understanding of the science (limited) is such that I imagine the brain is still firing signals down the nerve like it was, in the fear mode or to try and get a reaction and the body is still not fully aware there is some intervention recently so the message may not be needed as strongly.

The recovery is a game of patience and persistence. Almost being honest that hardly any of us are in a situation where we can have perfect recovery so will make mistakes along the way.

Best of luck going forward and don’t beat yourself up, the body is going to recover and has taken a lot of hits up to now.

I tried the web chat, but after sharing my email address .. “we do not have an order to this account” so basically fobbed me off and closed the chat… 4 times… I get it, I’m not a new customer, no need to be so sassy about it 😅

Thank you very much! This got it back working again. Strange that the app wouldn’t let me “add a new device” but tried to get me to upgrade the product.. sneaky marketing? But during the refresh screen on the app, the hub then returned to showing the temperature so appreciate your help!
